I suggest painting the gable white, same as the trim. But paint the garage door the same color as the brick - it's not a 'trim' and detracts from the feature window, etc. Also paint the front door white so it can be seen from the street. In other words, up the features and downplay the garage door.

I'd do a field-stone facade on the gable, match your mailbox to it, and then paint the garage door and your shutters a taupe shade. The front door could be a sage green to compliment. More change than you asked for but it would really give your house some curb appeal and set it apart. Have fun!

I would paint the Gable a Dark Grey and the trim the same white as the house trim, if you want to paint the Garage Door paint it a shade lighter then the Gable or vise/versa.

I would suggest painting your gable mid-toned muddy gray, perhaps get some inspiration from the colour of the brick mortar; leaving your trim white. Then really have some fun adding a bright colour to your front door. Considering the colour of your brick a blue door would look great. If you don't want something so different from everything else then paint your front door about 2 shades darker than the garage door and gable colour. Good luck, cute house.

A medium bright blue would be pretty on the front door maybe a bit darker then the toyota Tacoma's Speedway Blue they have, on their Trucks that would make the front door pop! You do have a very beautiful house!!!!

If you are focused on only doing the gable, then agree with white. I actually agree with posters that the garage door should not be white, right now in the picture it stands out as large as it is in white. I think you can take the shot and put it into BM color visualizer to see how it looks using the ideas above. The grey tones suggested seem like a good choice, as long as you change the garage door, keeping trim consistent with white.

Take a couple of pictures of the house, go to a paint store and get some sample colors and apply them to the gable picture. Evaluate them, at let them set for a day or two and then make your choice. Also, get the color that you want BUT if you sell the house you may have to consider re painting. Finally remember you will have feed back from neighbors! People always notice a new paint job, for about a month then it blends in with the neighborhood (unless it is some ridiculous color.)

Paint the gable the same color as your 'roof' color...it will make the area looked 'capped-off' for a unique approach to the traditional neighborhood...without standing our with a funky color, leaving the neighbors saying, 'WHAT were they thinking??'.

It looks like the garage door is meant to be a carriage door - which would typically be white. The least invasive fix is to paint the gable white to tie in with the garage door and the trim. Or you could try more of a terra-cotta red to match the bricks. The key is stepping back rather than looking at a small paint sample next to a brick. The bricks are a warm tone and I think you would be best served to keep the gable in a warm tone.

Try a dark plum-gray on gable and shutters. Or a dark green-gray.

Number one, lose the garage door as the huge standout item it is now by painting it the same color as brick. Paint the front door, shutters and gable a dark shade of green. Green is an excellent compliment to red.

First, to add a touch of white to the front of your home and since you already have a white-framed storm door, paint the front door white... paint the gable a mid-grey, then paint the garage door a slightly darker shade of grey... the result will be very classic and simple. Put your splash of colour outside in your plants (some yellows and purples/blues).

I see the gable as brick red as it should match the other gable... White is to stark with the red... Love the dive gray idea in the garage door and window... Shutters and bigger carriage door hinges in black as pure charm.... Medium French blue on front door for a pop and focus ... All the garage doors in the neighborhood are white with carriage house hardware to give it that look. I like the idea of painting the gable a grey. We were thinking about replacing the garage door with a statement-making, real wood carriage house style garage door.

Add cedar shakes and paint or stain them a light colour.

A possible solution could be to reduce the size of the gable with two coloured triangular fields, with central round decoration

Everyone in the neighbourhood has a white garage door cause the builder got a deal on buying in bulk! It don't make it right! LOL Seriously, the garage door should not be a focal point of a house. Play it down and create some interest welcoming to the front door!

Whoa! "bonnielynn75" (and a few others) has got it right, Jessica. Forget about what the neighbors do. You need to "paint out" (de-emphasize) the garage door. As it is, it completely dominates the façade of your house, eclipsing the entry door. Back off from your question about paint colors and look at the bigger picture: how do I "welcome" people to my home? (i.e., how do I help them find the entrance?) --rf

The gable should be a gray shade similar to the roof. The garage door just one shade lighter gray than the gable. I suggest that the entry door be white, the shutters be a little wider and painted white to add emphasis to that window. Eventually extend and round out the landscape on both front corners, adding a Weeping Cherry or similar small tree with a border of yellow low growing variety spirea to the garage corner and a border of a low growing species of golden yews bordering the front and around the extended opposite corner with a different specimen tree in that corner, possibly Rose of Sharon, to emphasise the entry and window.

Lots of suggestions about painting door and/or gable to match the brick. My brain agrees wholeheartedly, but my old and experienced eye tells me that, in the history of the universe, there has never been a successful colour match between brick or stone, and actual paint. I think this is due to the fact that there are multiple tones and textures present in brick and stone, making the paint colour look flat and dead, especially on larger, and flat surfaces like your gable.

At the moment, the white trim is bitty, and fights with the very beautiful window and the garage door, which (with the front door) should be the only features. I would use the roof colour (or a slightly lighter version) on the gable and on the upper trim to stop the visual clutter and distraction from the real features.

This slightly more modern approach will set your house apart a little from your neighbours, without it being too obvious a change, and keeping the colour palette in line with the neighbourhood.

I think you should paint the garage door a deeper version of the present gable color and then choose a contrast color for you front door. Add landscape that picks up garage and front door colors plus then some.

I Would paint the garage door french blue (blue/ gray) & also the shutters and the gable ,a dark gray like the roof .hope that helps.

How about sealed wood for the shutters and the gable? Then a dark gray garage door.

If you paint out the garage door so that it blends into the house, then perhaps the gable will look fine to you.

The shutters are too narrow.

Shutters should be wide enough so that they would actually cover the window if closed.

What would it look like if the shutters were removed?

A window box would be nice if you have time to keep it looking full and fresh.

While the shutters are obviously not functional, I do feel the window would be boring without them.

The windows are too low to the ground for a window box.

I, personally, do not like more than 3 colors on the exterior of a house. Looks like your shutters are black and I like them that color. I also like your door matching your window frame color (white). The garage door is too stark for your brick color, but not sure what color it should be, to be honest.

I see a dark gray gable in the background of your photo (on the left side) and I do not like that at all. Maybe a pale gray for the gable and just leave the garage door white since it does makes sense with the white trim, door, and window frames.

The safest route would be to paint the gable white to match the trim. That will minimize the number of colors you have going on and may keep the white garage door from looking so stark.

I would choose a warm medium blue gray for the gable, garage door and front door. Add colorful and textured landscaping along the edge of the drive and up to the front door to highlight the entrance and welcome your guests.

I think the garage door is perfectly fine the way it is. It actually ties in with the white window trim. Since the question is solely, which color to paint the gable, I'd paint it to match the shutters (charcoal?).

I would paint the garage door a dark shade that goes toward the brick color.

I think the garage door is all you see when you see the front of you house and I'm not a fan of having the garage door a focal point.

Use any neutral you like on the gable and even the trim can be done in that same color.

The front door is where your fun "I've always liked the color????" should go there. Paint the trim around the front door that same color. Use something that you are crazy about and says to people....here I am...the front door.

Shutters can be a more subtle color than front door.

Please consider painting the garage door. The last home we owned my husband was so not convinced and it turned out beyond words better than we could have imagined! As for it being a carriage door, the garage doors of my new house, are carriage door style and they came in many colors from the company when we ordered them. The color match on them is to the trim and compliments the brick, it is so beautiful. We moved from California to Virginia and except for the new houses most homes in this area have white garage doors, where it was just the opposite on the other side of the nation. So, I get it, it's a regional thing but it's worth considering. I'm sure what ever choices you decide you will be very happy.
