Hi, here are some more ideas:

TV above/on console at wall that is perpendicular to window wall.

Smaller-sized L shaped sectional (with one section against window wall).

If there's space, an accent chair angled into room....on right or left of media console....although placing it on the left may not give you enough space for bar stools.

Instead of the sectional as shown above, a sofa with 2 chairs can be in its same placement.

PLEASE, please change the light over the kitchen table and in the living space to coordinate with the pendants over the bar area. If you HAVE to have a ceiling fan, put a cool, different one in the living area, not over the table...the table needs a large pendant of some kind. Here's an example of a cool fan...very modern, though, so it depends on your décor.

You may also want to consider an extendable table to give you the capability to seat more than 4, just in case you ever need it.

Natalie has a great point about the ceiling lighting - budget to replace them with something appropriate to what you put under them. Create an ideabook here with your favorite styles of living room .. from highly contemporary to significantly traditional . . you need to develop an eye for what you like to be able to select well . .

Was looking for a TV stand but couldn't find a decent looking one yet.

Any ideas on what I should get for the windows? Colors?

Danny - you haven't posted dimensions of the spaces yet, - this is nearly 8' long . . .what is the distance you have from the windows to the counter wall? It looks like you may only have 9' so this may be too large. I'm really not seeing this sofa and chaise work facing your tv wall unless the overall width is small enough to walk by - you don't want to face the kitchen with this . . you want to have this with its back to the door so you have room for a great chair between the windows. I'm seeing the chair as the thing that you get that is so comfortable that you spend a lot of time there . sofa should be nice, but small and not your priority. A great armchair would be my suggestion for your priority.

What is the distance of the left pocket when you come in the door - depth of left and right walls - length of back wall - distance from that to the end of the peninsula wall.

Blinds are a good start for privacy - HD has woven wood ones that are pretty nice but you won't want to pick out the color of the blinds until we get some other elements sort of nailed down.

LibraDesignEye and Avery have good ideas here! I vote in favor of ceiling fans - maybe passe in design terms but so functional it's not even a conversation. If you have minimalist leanings, fine -- do minimalist fan and window blinds; if your taste changes, fine -- they won't clash with anything and you can layer on top, no waste there.

One caution would be, with space that size, do NOT just buy the biggest things that will fit physically, because they probably won't fit visually, e.g. that sectional sofa you mentioned. I don't think I wd go with a sectional,unless it is quite a bit smaller, because of the way it will dominate the space and make it look cramped. I have about 2400 SF here and continue to appreciate the furniture that is small enough to be flexible. Bigger is not better, in my experience! And the space in yr photos is not made for Big Stuff.

For now, I'd say just buy what you need --

(1) a nice table and four chairs for the area to the left of the kitchen as you walk in, which was obviously intended for that. You cd go round, but rectangular with short end to the wall wd probably fit and work better -- nice piece of artwork on the wall above it, which meets the eye upon entry, wd add a lot -- but you don't have to pick it until after you've worked with the rest a bit. If you have to have something there right now, get a nice mirror to reflect light from the windows (and from candles on the table at night); you can use it later in a bedroom when you find something you like better.

(2) TV stand is also priority, obviously intended to go on wall to right of kitchen as you walk in. Go as small as will comfortably fit your requirements, leave some space for artwork around and above. Again, this is a piece of furniture you could use elsewhere later once you have a better idea of what you really like, so Simple is Good! Alternative: put the TV under the kitchen bar counter, at eye level from the living room space.

(3) A sofa as comfortable as you can get, yet small enough to fit with its back to your front wall and still leave room for a lamp table or floor lamp on one side -- preferably the side near the door. Evening lighting matters a lot, especially for people who are mostly at home in the evening! You need a warm glow somewhere, and right by the door where you can turn it on upon entering wd be convenient. Ceiling lights do not give the same effect, & will fight yr TV. Bonus: pick a sofa that wd also fit with back toward entry area, to divide the space. An ottoman to put your feet on when you get home, that is capable also of bearing a tray with cocktail fixings in case of guests, wd also make you more comfortable.

I think if you do those things then continue to build from there, you'll have a happy & attractive spot -- good luck with it!

Hi, I agree with Mary Dillon....especially now knowing that you are looking at sleeper potentially for your living space, a sofa vs. a sectional would be my suggestion for your space, too.

Not only will a sofa give you a little more flexibility when shifting furniture pieces around to accommodate (overnight) guests, this would probably allow for more space to fit in 1 extra side chair (or 2 smaller ones) so that there is still a place for your guest(s) to sit (other than the bed when it's pulled out).

Also it may be easier on the pocketbook to get a sofa sleeper vs. sectional sleeper....which may then afford you to obtain something with a little more quality (to last a little longer for you), more features you like and/or in a style you may like better.

Here's a couple very affordable sofa sleepers that would work well in a space with a transitional or contemporary style. Both with very clean, modern lines. The first 2 pictures are of the "Henry" at West Elm...currently on sale for 20% off. The last 3 pictures is of IKEA's "Karlstad" sofa sleeper with storage component.

IKEA also has some very affordable TV/media consoles. Below are pictures of ones in their "Besta" line but there are many others you should check out as well.

PS what I like about Ikea is that they offer many modular options.....which enables you to "build" your unit to something that would best fit the area.....IMO this is particularly useful in smaller spaces.
