Using good quality flooring saves money in the long run. Perhaps you could consider using the wide plank in the public areas on the main level, and then a less-expensive, narrower plank hardwood in bedrooms and other secondary spaces. If stained the same color, it would still look better over time than going with a lower quality flooring throughout.

Read reviews, and google the name of the product with the terms 'reviews' and 'complaints' and see what you come up with.

Don't be duped into buying from a big box store like Lumber Liquidators thinking their 100 year warranty means they sell a quality product. They don't, and the warranty is written to product them, and give you the shaft. Buy from a high end flooring store that has been around and will stand behind their product.
