Hello all,

Looking for recessed lighting knowledge and assistance for the kitchen in our new home. The kitchen is roughly 12'W x 19'L. The ceiling is 11', however there are 6" beams evenly spaced across the ceiling. The is island is 4 1/2'W x 9'L. This is also a open plan with the living room to the left in front of the sink, also 11' ceiling, and dining area to the top, ceiling dropping to 10" just after the fridge.

I have read post after post and still not sure I have a good understanding of the options available and what is best. Seems like information overload with so many options being offered these days. So I'm looking for input and suggestions.

Our plan is to install 6" recessed housings with LED lights on a dimmer, supplemented by pendants over the island area, which would be the 9" to 13" lights mounted 48" above the countertop.

The options in the images are what I am thinking. The circles around the two end lights on Option 1 are lights that were not listed on our plans, but I think we may need them. Thoughts?

Option 1 would put the recessed lights on about 3' centers, option 2 would do close to the same but add the extra light over the sink.

Does this spacing appear correct or do I need to add/remove some? We are leaning towards the CREE BR30 2700k TrueWhite LED.

Next question is, can/should I use the regular Halo 6" IC air-tite recessed housings, H7ICT or should I use the LED model, H7ICAT. I lean towards the regular housing since it is probably what is most used by builders here, so more standard, but I know they do this because of cost. Plus, if for some reason we don't like the LED lights, we can simply put in old style spots. If we put in the LED model, we don't have that option correct? I'm also somewhat scared to get tied to low voltage wiring for these in case we ever need to revert back to line voltage for remodels.

Thoughts?
