The tops of my hands get really dry, so I always wash my hands to remove unwanted oils and then put lotion on them and then wipe the palms of my hands and the grip side of my fingers the underside of my fingers on a damp towel to remove the lotion from the bottom part of my hands and fingers which usually leaves me able to easily grip fabric and prevents me from getting lotion on my fabric. Office supply places sell a product for people who handle slippery money and paper, you might check that out and see if it's stain-free .

I usually let the batting 'rest' for a day after unwrapping. There have been times when my fingers don't seem to work well so I just deal with it and use pins to keep the fabric in place until it's sewn.

I get my batting by the roll so it isn't folded. But I do cut it and let it rest overnight before quilting. For my dry hands, I use Udderly Smooth lotion, it hasn't stained yet. You could use latex gloves (or cut the fingers off and just use them) to help with grip.

I would mist the batting and then put it into the dryer for a bit. That should do it. Or you could put it in the dryer with a damp towel. I was thinking of the office product for your hands that Flamingo suggested too.

I use the drier method too. I put a wet washcloth and the unrolled, as smooth as I can get it, batting in. Keep an eye on it though! I use mainly cotton and it works really well. I have seen quilting shows where the batting is so smooth and I just don't know how they get it that way.

I too use all cotton batting and I iron mine before sandwiching...I got that idea from the quilter (sorry can't recall her name) who has the video on spray basting...she stated she irons everything before sandwiching. No problems to speak of this far .. Of course I press more than iron out...something else I learned from ya'll!
