Reupholstering furniture for outdoors

We have a rather large group (8 or 9) of the Herman Miller Chadwick sectional pieces with their original orange upholstery, but unfortunately we no longer have the room for them as our new home is much smaller than the last. The upholstery is old and a bit stained (from before we purchased them years ago) so they could really stand to be recovered. Two of them are currently in the living room as we start the process of furnishing the house.

Although there is no longer room in the house for the rest of the set (and likely even the ones shown in the photo), we do love how comfortable they are and we're considering upholstering them for use on the covered porch that ajoins with the deck.

Would it be a good idea to upholster them in a dual layer consisting of plastic sheeting with outdoor fabric over the top to help further protect them for outdoor Michigan weather? I'm just not confident that just using outdoor fabric would be enough protection. I'm confident in my ability to upholster these myself, but I am new to upholstery for outdoors. Suggestions?
