Susie, it's Surya can-2031. Rugs direct and other websites have it. It's about $1600 for an 8x11. It's a nice wool rug, very pretty when you zoom in on it.

Susie, I absolutely love your couch. It's very boho chic and I would personally go for a neutral and super trendy sheepskin rug. It adds the perfect amount of texture without taking away the attention from the couch.

Wow! Love Grover's third Surya rug in the room. Tone on tone looks great. I thought I preferred the turquoise, but agree it's too much for the space. Today's find is the best by far. Way to go Grover!

I think that rug is the perfect compliment to the new dining set. Excellent choice!

I too like cowhide or sheepskin. But it is too big of a space to fill. From what I have seen, it doesn't come in bigger sizes, 8x10 etc.

Out of all the rugs posted so far, this one by groveraxle is my favorite

It provides a nice contrast and seems to have a modern touch too!

Susie, I don't know how much you are willing to spend, but I did a quick little research and found a site that sells genuine sheepskin rugs in size 12x12. But who knows, you might be able to find them cheaper than I did.

I like the purple one you just posted. I also like Grover's striped one that Pracheeti posted yesterday.
There are really endless possibilities for you. The sofa is sensational and truly deserves a rug that will stand up to it. Can you tell us a little of the story behind the sofa? And do you have a favourite living room picture in your ideabook? You will get more practical advice here if we understand a bit more about the direction you are aiming to take.

I don't like the two abstracts as I just don't think they relate to the furniture well enough and, when you have a bright gold velvet sofa, I think you need to relate to it. I like the second $3000 rug very much. Which one is less than $1000?

Love this option. Contemporary rug better co-ordinates existing elements. Lively colour palette, and better balance with sofa, chair and floor colours. Have fun with red violet and green-bluegreen accents

Here's a few more suggestions from Williams Sonoma....the last one looks interesting to me. It's called their "Grand Bazaar".

Of the two you posted, the one on the right. A sheepskin or hide wouldn't do your sofa justice. Too small and not the right vibe.

I'm not a fan of the ones that are overly gold. It becomes overwhelming and garish, IMO.

I like the ones with a bit of purple in them. The colour brings out the regalness of the sofa and blends nicely with the floor and chair.

Great ideas! While I do like the overdyed silk rugs as they are striking, modern, and traditional all at the same time- they are quite an investment. There are other natural options like this at shrugs.com that are under $600:

I agree with the Pros when they say with a sofa like that you shouldn't play it safe and the striking gold could use some balance else where.

It's so easy when I look at a photoshop to forget that there'll be furniture visible [dining set]. I so love that last 'faded' one that seemed to be toward color of camel. That purple gold striped might suit you after set's there- will you post photos of it? It might be a funky vibe.

How about the Heriz rug from Room and Board? It comes in two colourways... Citron and Ink.

You'd have to see it in person. The colours look muted in some pictures and vibrant in others.

Well, I think the problem is the couch. It's really hard to coordinate with it. I know you want to keep it, but boy, look at all the effort here and it seems not matter what you do, that couch is taking over the room. I know what it's like to keep something and have to work around it, but sometimes you just have to let go to give yourself more design freedom.

no don't let go of that couch. the ability to b creative is making it work. if u surround the room w grays n high light w golds it's gonna look awesome. gray walls, chairs, area rug, drapes. accent w gold n gray pillows. 3rd n 4th accent colors would minimal turquoise n chrome. it will look amazing.

Susie, you're exactly right about how challenging it is to choose rugs off the internet. Maybe it's about time to just select a handful of your faves, order some samples and take it from there. You've got such beautiful pieces and colors to work with.....so really, the ideas/suggestions can be endless. But you'll never know for sure until you see and feel the actual rug(s) for yourself.

Like you've experienced, I have seen rugs online that were "love at first sight", but then in person....something about it just wasn't what I expected or even wanted. The reverse has happened too. I've come across rugs that were just "eh" online, but in person....wow! :-)

I don't like the solid slate either.
