I'm in the same boat. I am replacing all my builder grade doors and replacing with insulated 6 panel doors. I am painting them black and can't decide what would look best in a transitional style decor.

Hardware was the bigger expense...if I was your husband, I, too, would want to work around what you have already invested in.

I just did super dark doors and I went ahead and used the oil rubbed bronze hardware. We were planning on lighter doors, but then went with a more black and white theme for our main floor/kitchen. Or kitchen is white with a black hood and black island and brass accents. The handles do get “lost” on the dark doors but I think it looks awesome. Our bronze handles have copper showing through in a couple of spots. I have thought of getting some copper color paint and a fine tip paint brush- and highlighting more of the handles, so there is more definition to them. With all that said, I still love the handles in my dark doors. It looks really cool.

I just painted my walls SW pure white and now I want my interior doors black. I’m changing my cabinets hardware to champagne bronze. Will it look ok if I keep my door hardware brushed nickel?

Brass with black doors!

Thank you! I’m not a fan at all of brass :( I have a door going to my deck that has a special heavy handle and lock on it and my builder said not to change it. It’s brushed nickel

I personally think that any color hardware would look good on black doors (except maybe an oil rubbed bronze that's closer to brown). It just depends if you want it to blend in or if you want the hardware to contrast. And no, the hardware or metal finishes do not have to all be the same in a room or in your house. You'll notice that many designers are mixing metals these days.
