I love coming here because I always get such awesome ideas and inspiration. And it's really fun!

I've
been making a lot of progress on redecorating my bedroom. The wall
color is Sherwin Williams Iceberg with white carpet and medium gray
berber carpet.

Here are some pictures of the updates I've
made. I'm going for comfortable glamor, winter wonderland (doesn't have
to be all white) with accents of gray, silver, white, a touch of gold,
and blues. There is still a lot more to go (headboard, nightstand,
bedding, etc). Below, you will find a few pictures.

1. I'm
pretty sure I will go with the blue curtains against the light blue
walls. What are your thoughts on the blue curtains? on the white
curtains?

2. I was thinking of going with white bedding, but now
that I see the curtains up, I am considering gray, turquoise, or deep
midnight blue. All would be with white accents either in the pillows,
blanket (pictured at foot of bed), or sheets. What are your thoughts on
bedding colors now that you see the curtains against the wall?

3.
Tomorrow I will begin sanding the chest of drawers and round table. I
haven't picked out a color yet. I was thinking Sherwin Williams
Quicksilver, Leisure Blue, or Uncertain Gray. I'd love ideas and
suggestions.

Instead of sanding the round table, can you skirt it? I'd love to see more fabric in the room...

Other than accents, don't do any more blue. Let the walls be your "winter sky" and be the blue in the room. Adding other large chunks of blue will diminish those beautiful walls.

I really like the white drapes. Simple and elegant. I'd change the curtain rod to a silver or nickel rod, though, to keep with your winter wonderland look.

I love white bedding. I think it makes you look forward to crawling into bed at night as it looks crisp and clean. But if you do white bedding, yes, I'd change the curtains to a charcoal. White curtains, I would not do white bedding as the room might start looking like a hospital room. Not a fan of dark colored bedding, though. I think it looks heavy, "dirty", uninviting. Maybe white with a subtle-patterned coverlet folded down and shams? Something white with soft blue a la the walls in it? Be careful, though! Blues are VERY hard to coordinate. How about silver?

Annie's suggestion re: a table skirt is PERFECT! That is a really great idea. However, I tried to find one for a round table I have and it was impossible. The pre made ones are really awful, so the only option is to hire someone to make one for you or do it yourself (which is a great option! if you can). I think it's worth it, though.

    White dresser.

It might be better to continue the previous threads rather than starting a new one for every detail. That way, people see your overall inspiration, what has been suggested so far, what has been discarded, i.e. where you're coming from and where you're trying to go.

    Super helpful! Thanks all!

I think if it were me, I'd look at CL for a new side table. One that's heavier. I'm sure you could find one for dirt cheap. Then you can paint it.

I would think about getting a new side table...the round one would fit nicely in the corner and a larger one would better serve you...the little round one seems small for all the beside stuff you need.

Here are pics of my room with blue curtains (1) and gray curtains (2,3). The curtains are hung on a graphite rod. I feel that the gray curtains make the iceberg blue walls appear brighter in person, whereas the blue curtains add an element of serenity with the blue walls and gray carpet. What are your thoughts? Remember, I have gray carpet. I do want to stick with white bedding. So, what color curtains could tie this all together with the gray carpet, iceberg blue walls, and gray carpet? And what color tufted headboard would you choose? Thanks so much for your help!

Your walls are such a pretty color, but I think the only drapes that complement it (that I see here) are the white/cream ones. I don't think any of the blues or grays do the walls justice. It actually (on my monitor) seems to "green" up your paint color. For the headboard, if you can find one, I'd try to go similar to the wall color, maybe like this:

or a silvery gray to match your carpet?

I'd keep the white curtains and add color elsewhere.

I am just laughing at myself for being so biased. I realize that when I first heard the vision for your room I got a picture in my mind of how it would look. I was picturing a pale gray and any blue to be near to your color of Iceberg.

    Do you have inspiration photos?

Looking at oly's photos's I can really see a jute rug in your room to break up all of the white and gray (of your carpet). They have some huge sales going on for jute rugs at overstock and wayfair.

The white curtains keep in " light " in feel, the color give the room "warmth" . I love white bedding with deep color pillow sham or accent pillows. Patterned pillows that pull in the main color or two. Don't keep to just two colors, remember to decorate in threes. Picture above added that third color. Dark furniture shows the dust more, haha. I agree with bigger side table but the tablecloth may give it a bigger feel.

Something to consider with curtain colors. If you need the room to be darker at night for sleeping, use darker colors. Even if room darkening curtains, we felt the outside light came through.

I like both curtains you picked out, but I think I prefer the blue. They both seem to go rally well with the inspiration pic someone put up for you on your last thread, which I would feel free to liberally use as a guide as you said it was just the look you were going for. Things are coming together! Glad you are having fun.

I have chosen white bedding and white curtains. My room is coming along--slowly but surely. All of your suggestions have been so helpful. I just primed my chest of drawers and originally thought I'd paint it in white. I want this glamorous winter wonderland look, but don't want it to come across as sterile. Other colors I am using are gray, silver, and a touch of gold. The carpet is medium gray. I am having a difficult time now choosing the color to paint it: white, light gray, light or medium silver, or a dark gray. Can't wait to hear all your thoughts!

I think adding a rug would make all of your choices so much easier.

Thanks, emmarene for the suggestions! As mentioned at the top of the thread, I am using Sherwin Williams Iceberg. I'll definitely look into that color you suggested--hope it'll go with my SW Iceberg. You don't think that'll be too much gray, especially with the gray Berber carpet? Here's a pic!

Aktillery9, love this suggestion! Yes, I agree that a rug will tie it all together. Unfortunately, that is not in the budget right now. Still keep the suggestions coming...always love reading what you have to offer.

Yes, I was thinking the wrong paint company. Someone said the blue walls were enough blue for the room. I remember you want silver. I found SW Quicksilver. It may be too bluish. Thanks for the picture, I was so curious.

I'd get a small lamb skin rug. I got one at Home Goods for 15.00, or perhaps even the faux one at IKEA. And I'd use a darker shade on the same strip for the chest, i.e. I'd get some blue in there, such as Soar or Something Blue.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Nosoccermom--that sounds like a great deal on a rug! How big is it? Seems like it'd be small. Where do you suggest I put it?
    last modified: 11 years ago

Oh, it's small. The IKEA fake one is 12.99. You can put it in front of the bed, on the bed, or a chair... The real one is 30.00 at IKEA.

I just feel you need something soft or fluffy, or soft texture, so it doesn't turn into an ice palace.

Awesome! Thanks for the pics, nosoccermom! Appreciate you taking the time to post those.

Eeek...Could use some help! Just did a first coat of paint on my dresser. I chose Benjamin Moore Silver Half Dollar. On the picture below, I brought in one of the drawers (this drawer does have a second coat) to see it against the Sherwin Williams Iceberg walls. The drawer looks way too similar to the wall color. Is it just me, or do the walls now look slightly green? This is a beautiful silver gray, yet against my walls the drawer looks too blue. Do you think it needs a third coat to darken it more? Or should I pick a much darker gray? Thanks!
Or maybe I should switch to white?

On my monitor, the grey looks like it has some pink in it. I would have stayed with a darker bluish grey or actually more into the blues, like the blue pillows on Emmarene's picture. Or would that silver grey color of the smaller of your pillows work?

On the sw website they suggest pairing iceberg with unusual gray. Not sure how that would work with your carpet. I would also consider painting a neutral beige gray. Something that would break up all of the white, and light blue. Just a thought. I just threw in a beige piece of furniture to see what it looked like. Not sure you want this color, but it is worth a look.

oh that unusual gray is lovely- still subdued but with enough contrast to the walls. I agree about the rug idea- and I do believe that some small accent rug or runner (not a full size rug) could really help accent whatever feel or colors you want to include.(and would really be quite reasonable $, not a major expense).

Actually that color of the nightstand isn't unusual gray. I just tweaked the color in PowerPoint.

I'd look through the beiges here on the sw card

This is so helpful! I was originally thinking of SW Monorail Silver. SW Unusual Gray was a contender as well. I have swatches of all of those other grays. Thanks for doing that mockup, aktilkery9; really appreciate you doing that. Part of me just thinks I should do a white, like BM White Diamond or BM Chantilly Lace. If I repaint, it'll be today. I am learning so much from this process and with all of the help from each of you! So... leave as is, Monorail, Unusual, White???

I know that this is an older post, so, I'm probably too late in my response...that's ok. jmdkc, if you're still looking for bedroom suggestions, here's mine. I JUST bought the SW Iceberg paint for my walls. I have a hard time with paint because my bedroom is a north facing room, it used to be our FR before we turned it into our primary bedroom, I've had many paint colors on these walls, but OMG, the Iceberg is so pretty, I love your choice in that. As far as everything else. I looked paticularly at your last picture, the one where you had your dresser in it. I personally would paint the dresser a bit darker grey, on my monitor it looks a bit tanish-grey, but, that could just be my monitor. I LOVE the white comforter, with the white drapes, with the light blue of the walls, I just think it stands out so well. I hope you went with a medium grey headboard to match your carpet, I think that would tie into each other very well. IDK if you want to keep the fan, but, a new light & some artwork in greys, whites & blues would really make your room stunning. Good luck, mostly, do what makes YOU happy. :)
