Need help with living room!!!

I just redecorated the living room. I love the blue and white pillows. The question I have is the rug. Should I keep this gold rug that blends in with the fireplace, or put a blue one down?

Hi! it's very pretty but i think the rug is too small, I would like to see it go under the front feet of all the furniture. Blue could be pretty -- even a more saturated blue -- I would go a little deeper in tone than the toss cushions. It could even go to navy. The pattern works nicely so I wouldn't shy away from something bold along those lines. Hope that helps!

Thank you for your advise. The smaller accessories are just there for Easter.

Satudio-Fichandler...If I go with a darker blue, then I need to get pillows to match color. Aso, should I paint the fireplace wall.

Linda, I don't think you need darker pillows, dark and light blue go fine together, you don't need to be too matchy-matchy. And you can keep the walls as they are.

It's a lovely room! Personally I have never been a big fan of putting a rug on a rug. Could we see a picture without one?

Flair lighting.......Ahh! I love the lighter blue rug...pretty. What store is that from? Do you think the navy is too overbearing in the room?

Hi! Nice on the blue and cream tones you have there! My suggestion is like what everyone else say, replace it with more of a Blue Area Rug that is bigger to fit under the sofas and your armchair! Plus, maybe on your coffee table clear off the items and replace it with smaller decor accessories of Whites, Silver and maybe some blue tints! You should keep the fireplace as it is......... and remove some clutter on the fireplace mantle!

Thank you everyone for all your good ideas. Flair lighting...the rug you suggested with the medallions only comes in 5x 8 which everyone suggested bigger.

I would update the ceiling fan. I would also hang the curtains higher.

the ceiling fan doesnt bother me here it just blends away, which is fine when you have a functional item. no sense making it a color or having it stand out. if you dont use the fan at all then i would change it.

Studio-Fichandler, wow, it is a small world. I will check out your site. Are you going for the mid-century vibe? So many homes being renovated, beautiful! Best of happiness with your reno,

First I would like to say a big thank you for all your wonderful suggestions. THANK YOU!!!The new rug came! Pic below. You won't believe this...but...I just received the new BHG magazine for this month..and the house they are featuring has the rug I took back, (the Gold and White Chevron). I like both, but this one has more pop! And blue is my favorite color! And if you notice.....I put the drapes up higher as suggested, great advise. In the second pic..the pic is taken from my entry. You notice wall on left built out more? That is a large sliding door closet at entry...My next dilemma....

awesome rug looks so good! i would get some mercury glass in the space, mainly replace the vase on the table.

Ohhh! Your breaking my heart...I picked up that vase the one and only time I was in Italy. The candle holders on the mantle are mercury glass, should I put them on the table. Perhaps on a mirrored tray? Should I leave nothing on the mantle?

It's gorgeous! Liked the first rug, but like the blue even better. Your room looks beautiful!

The new rug just pops in your room. I love it. I agree about the vase; though it is beautiful it doesn't work on the coffee table. You must have somewhere else that it would show better.

OHHHHH dont let me do that... I LOVE the vase itself. and if it is special to you then keep it in the space, but maybe some put some forsythia in there instead.

I took the candle holders off the mantel and on the coffee table..is that better? Should I put something on the mantel?

Your changes in here are amazing! The new rug is perfect! And I like the candles on the table. What about a small ceramic stool by the corner chair where the plant is so that person has a place to set down a drink.

Is the coffee table 18 inches from the couch?

Is there room for the side table and lamp to move to the other side of the couch? For some reason, the lamp just seems odd sitting right in front of the window????? I love the basket and maybe it could move down there some how?

Thank you Abbyjean. The couch is 18" from the coffee table...is it supposed to be? I was just centering it on the fireplace. I tried your suggestion, and moved the table...what do you think? Its the first thing you see when you come into the home.
Also....what about the fireplace? Should I put anything on it? It took me longer to make the mantel then it did to do the stone and glass tile around it...hahhaa.
Flair lighting....bottom pic is the vase....guess i will find another home for it..though it goes well in the room.
I just noticed...everytime i go to take a pic..one of my doggies is in the pic.

Your room looks gorgeous! I agree with abbyjean to move plant and place a small silver? table there for book or beverage.

Perfect with the coffee table....centered with the fireplace and 18 inches from the couch! YES!

Gosh, thanks for trying the table and lamp on the other end, and hope it was easy to try and move, but I am not like it on this other end, especially knowing it is the first thing seen. The basket was a cozier look. Table and lamp may return......LOL.

YOU DID THE MANTEL AND FIREPLACE???? WOW! Yes, I am screaming as I am so impressed. I think anything on the mantel competes with the mirror and seems small and undersized.

I want a close shot of that mirror made out of paint sticks please!
    linda Kelley thanked Bobbie

Okay Bobby....the one is over my mantel I used all large paint sticks..I would be happy to give you insturctions

...the second I made for my son using 2 sizes of paint sticks, the 3rd pic is using skewers.

The skewers look amazing, too. How are they attached and what is the mirror? A tray?

    linda Kelley thanked abbyjean

The mirror is a craft mirror. I glued a embroidery hoop to the rim of the mirror. After painting the sticks, I then glued them to the back of the mirror.

Hi Linda love your living room. I like the table this side of couch, would your basket tuck part under end table? How would your vase look on your mantle, or on the end Table? Love your room

do you think i should take the mirror over mantel down, and go for something smaller

For fun, what does it look like over the couch?

    linda Kelley thanked abbyjean

No - even though it is a large scale, I like it . . what feels like it could shift is the mantel - Its location feels a tad high to me . . like it should be right at the top of the tile . . that would solve the issue you raise about the mirror because it would have more breathing room.

I built that mantel last year after I finished the fireplace...first time building something like this. I wanted it to be sturdy...it is...i think its there for life of wall.
