It is absolutely dark. But I'm thinking of stripes that size in the photos and I hadn't decided on horizontal or vertical lines. I also attached a photo of the paint color I'm thinking of using... mainly because I have painted my hallway that color.

Would would you consider a taller TV console? Perhaps set TV on it? If you are painting walls you could patch then paint. It seems a shame to paint stripes on the walls with wires cascading down to outlet and cable box.

I like the blue paint and would do the stripes vertically unless you're going for a more nautical look. You can paint the TV cords to match the stripes but a taller console would be better.

Here are some rug ideas. Do you have a design style in mind? Or just going for a transitional look? I hope you can change the DR rug to something lighter too.

I wouldn't do stripes. They're going to be overwhelming in this space. Use blue accents instead.

TV is way too high. You need a taller AND longer console, and to bring the TV down to meet it.

I "liked" Grover's comment because I think her rendering is a valuable tool to help you decide if that look is really what you want. It is very nautical. And she's right, the TV is waaaaay too high.

Oh your right! That picture REALLY helps! The TV is hung temporarily but I plan to have it professionally hung with the wires hidden once I paint of figure out that wall. I don't like the lines from the looks of the picture. It's just such a great big wall I don't know what to do with it..... What if the lines were gray?.... Like the walls surrounding it?...

I was thinking along the lines of the picture attached for a media console. ( the one in the picture is from my old apartment so we're slowly buying things that fit.)

Thanks Kristi for the rug ideas. I absolutely dislike the rug in the dining room. I purchased it before seeing the space. That's what my original post was regarding. Rather I get two rugs (one for the living room one for the dining) or just one for the living room that somewhat boarders the living room area

Some looks for you with an Ikea console and lower TV, a taller lamp, with and without stripes:

Your dining room rug is too small anyway. It needs to be 4' longer and wider than your table.

I like the last two rugs and lamps but i don't really like the stripes and I'm not liking the bare wall too much either. I need to search some idea on here

None of the rugs are Ikea. Ikea doesn't have any rugs that are large enough.

Kellie, the second to the last rug is posted above with a link. The last rug with the daisy pattern is from the same site, and I believe it's a Surya rug. If you search blue and teal contemporary rugs at Plush Rugs, you should find it.

I googled the rugs using " blue and white transitional rugs". The first are on Houzz and I'm still looking for the other two.

This is a very busy wall. Don't be afraid to let the TV wall be quiet. I think a single long console with your end table and lamp are enough.

Yes that does seem heavy... Maybe if there weren't any selves under the TV only on each side?... I guess I'm afraid that way will look bare with just solid paint and the TV on it....maybe not.

What is behind the sofa? Seems to me that this room may look better flipped the other way. The accent color blue you have is lovely but I feel like it's on the wrong wall. I'm not sure you need to go with stripes it may make the space feel closed in. The TV is hung much too high. It should be much closer to your eye level when you are seated. I can see your vision and you have a nice sofa and I have pretty blue color your dining room table seems nice.

Of all the renderings I did of your room, I think this one looks the best. You don't need to busy up the wall with stripes or bookcases full of tchotchkes. You might even replace the end table and its lamp with a floor lamp or, if the light is not needed, a tall plant.

I find many of the design dilemma rooms on houzz are victims of too much stuff. Start with a simple media cabinet that hides all your components. Get the longest one you can find. If it's enough longer than the TV, you can put the TV toward the left end, and a simple vase or tall candlesticks on the right for balance. A single large item has more impact than 30 small ones. Less is more.

And please remove that high mirror behind the sofa. It serves no purpose there and looks out of place.

What about built in book shelf look? Ikea has them and they look good. It has a cabinet so you can close your tv up. You could decorate with simple books etc....

What about this rug for the living room or dining room area?...

I like the open boxes and the tv in the middle in black. Paint the wall another accent color and use a muti colored maybe zig zag carpet on the floor with a beige background.

Use accent pillows from the colors in the carpet. That blue and yellow carpet would work. Maybe pale yellow for the wall. Certainly would add color.

It seems when people can't coordinate colors they fall to beige. Beige gets worn out. Even the right color gray will go with beige furniture if you bring in colors. In my humble opinion.

Am I crazy to think I could do this rug in the living room area?... I feel as though I have no real color scheme so it leaves me open to any color I chose... Right

I think you need to move both of the printed prints you have in black and white, they are hiding behind curtains. Paint the wall the gray that you have in the lower room behind. It's an awful long wall to paint stripes on, the inspiration photo's, the walls are much shorter distance than yours. If you like stripes maybe the rug is the way to go!

That Rugby stripe from Ballard doesn't come larger than 5 x 8. I doubt that is big enough.

They had an 8*10 in store today. Maybe just not online

If you're keeping the blue wall and curtains, I'd like to see a bit of blue in the rug as well. However, you could do a rug in a complementary color--orange, for instance--and then spread blue and orange throughout the space.

If you do something like the rug below, you could add some blue vases and orange flowers and pillow to tie it all together.

Try the 8 x 10, but make sure it's returnable!

So I've decided totally against the stripes I will paint that wall the same color as the surrounding walls which will be gray. And unfortunately it at the outlet so the rug wouldn't be refundable so I'll play it safe and keep looking.

I lived with vertical stripes for several years, still think they looked great. Of course it all depends on the width. Thinner stripes are traditional and more formal, the wider the stripe the more modern and more casual. So stripes become a very personal choice. If you want stripes, try out different widths. Do what suits you.

As to the rug, if you are wanting a traditional look, consider an Oriental or Persian style rug. Then, should you tire of your blue, you have a rug that will go with many other looks. Lots of that kind of rug out there - Pottery Barn has one, and so do most decorator stores like Home Design. Good luck and have fun doing this project. .

I say, paint, re mount the tv in the lower spot and find your console for now. then the rug will come.

60%-30% -10% is the decorating rule that most decorators follow. that means color distribution. so blue should one of those percent's to make the room work. That includes the wall color. so with the blue wall - 60% or 30% of the room (including the wall) needs to be blue. at the moment, I don't know if you have anything else in the room that is blue, but somehow or another you might want to add something else blue in the room to tie it together.

If you are keeping the blue curtains, I would suggest a print rug with this same shade of blue so that it will contrast from the off-white upholstery and tie in with the blue walls at the other end of your home.
