Board and batten in dining room?

I really love the look of board and batten paneling....however, will it look out of place in my home? Here's the view from the front door...you see the dining room on back right corner, living room in front, and family room on back left. No other room would have the paneling other than the dining room (p.s. excuse the mess. in the middle of window replacements)

I think it'll look fine in your home. It looks like you already have some trim, and it's fine to have just the dining room with the board and batten wainscoting. We also only added it to our dining room, and I think it turned out great. We did paint it to match the other trim in the house though. Good luck!

its fine to have just the dining room paneled. that tends to be the most formal and gussied up room, now.

I think of board and batten as a cottage/country look, so I think your home is too formal for that look. You could do high wainscot though.

yes...I was going to make it higher...perhaps 60" high. the dining room has 9 ft ceilings.

That sounds wonderful to me. If you were going to go more formal you would need to use the small trim pieces to make frames within the lower part of the wall, with a chair rail above & that sounds like a measuring nightmare. I like the first examples the best and 60" is great. While I was studying design the magic dimensions were to divide the wall into 1/3 or 2/3. Most tend to divide it into halves. Of course there are plate racks, chair rails & paneling.

I feel like board and batten is a more casual look like decoenthusiaste said, but at the right height, it will create a more formal look to match the house. ...and I would make the panels a bit wider, perhaps 18-24".

After looking at all the B&B pics, I see that all door frames have trim. Would that be weird to put trim around the archway from DR to LR and DR to kitchen even though it isn't in the other through ways.?

Did you put up Masonite or beadboard on lower section of wall with B&B? Or just go with textured walls? I’m having a huge issue figuring out how to make it all flush without cutting out each panel and installing after I have trim, casings and battens up. I also have 2 arched doorways transitioning between rooms. What did you decide to do there?
