Need advice for kitchen backsplash

I'd like to add a backsplash, at least above the range, to make cleaning easier. However, I have a few issues to consider:
- I'm not a backsplash kind of girl.
- I like clean lines and a minimalist look.
- My quartz countertop has a busy pattern so I don't want to add anything busy.
- I don't want anything that would make cleaning harder, as it would defeat the purpose (so not too much grout).
- I already have splashes of red (hood, accessories and wall of coffee nook) so I don't want to overdo it.

I've thought about going for large tiles in the same dark grey as the wall paint, or adding a tempered-glass backsplash above the range. Or would red be overkill?

Advice is welcome!

You really need a backsplash behind an oven and behind a sink for obvious reasons. Splashes and greasy splatters are a constant clean-up problem in any kitchen, so make it easily cleanable but attractive.

You could back paint tempered glass with red. The whole wall.

Thinking about your design and what I perceive your taste to be, I suggest a printed tin backsplash. You can pick your own colors and design. The tin is usually adhered with an adhesive so no worry about finding studs or proper backing material. The tin is also thin so no need to account for backing standoff or the need for trim or molding around the edges. Your kitchen is looking good, love it. Keep us posted to what you decide.

What about a sheet of stainless or zinc? They come in various back splash friendly sizes at big box stores.

    Dear Design Dilemma,
I recommend a few ideas. First I would recommend using a light colored I am with a red grout. The red grout would tie into the other red colors of your kitchen. Possibility bring in some coloed tile with grey grout. A grey subway tile with red grout would continue the floor pattern and bring some color. The white would brighten the area, possibly usa a diamond pattern. Best to you in your design selection.

We used stainless steel subway tiles that came with a peel and stick, so really easy to install youself and we used behind the stove only. It's a clean, modern look and easy to keep clean (there is no grout). If youp look at Shop Houzz you'll see all the various sizes and shapes. I don't find there are any issues behind the sink, if there are water spashes, you have to wipe whether it's tile or just the wall, so we elected for a cleaner line without them.

Just my two cents worth, I like a couple of the ideas given, the silver retro tin tiles, and the etched glass. The glass could have an etched design of your choosing sand blasted on the back side so the front exposed side would be very easy to clean.

I'll definitely look into all the ideas mentioned. Thank you so much! I might go for a backsplash only above the range. I don't need anything for the sink, as there is no wall behind it (it faces the dining room). The kitchen is small and the only problem area is above the range. I do like the idea of stainless, whether tile, tin or else. Any thoughts on which option would be easy to clean? Stainless steel appliances are not easy to keep spotless so this is a definite concern.

I have the faux tin ceiling pieces as my backsplash and love them. I installed them quite easily myself with double sided tape. It took less than a day. They wipe off easily. They are produced in several colors, there is even a paintable choice. Mine have been up for almost 10 years and still look good as new. I was going to do a granite backsplash but was afraid it would be too heavy for my 1897 house. The faux tin was a perfect solution.

B.C.B., would you keep the grey paint behind the glass?

I love my granite backsplash . It's very easy to clean and it just makes everything else stand out.

    I love your choices.

Good luck and go with your gut.

When people see what we did their comment is WOW. Especially all the granite continued for backsplash .

I can't say whether silver would be the best choice. I personally feel a hint of red tin would custom the look to match your vent hood and counter jar. To me the stainless look matching the oven is more industrial for my taste. Of course it's completely up to you. I found the photo doing a search using 'red tin backsplash' it was my first option.

You have a lovely modern kitchen with dark grey floors and grey granite. Would you like the idea of small rectangular glass tiles in color scheme of dark grey glass, light grey glass and white glass tiles together? The slight shine of the glass and white glass tiles would bring out the white in your granite countertops.
