I found this rug that I really like. Do you think it would look good? Also what size do you think I would need? (:

I am HORRIBLE at giving wall color suggestions, especially from my iPad. Just wondering. The inset on the fireplace looks like it goes very nicely with the current wall color. Will it look as good if the wall is grey? And perhaps that lovely sectional would stand out more against a dark wall color? Not too dark, but certainly not the same light level as the sectional.

And I assume you plan to do something with the TV over the mantle to control the cords? And is it mounted too high? I know I am in the minority here on Houzz, but I would mount the TV over one of your lovely consoles, then balance the wall with some art over the other one.

Oh, and I LOVE the "cushion" on the back of the couch. :)

The geometric rug is not my taste so hard to say if it would look good. But you should choose your rug first before paint color. I agree the TV needs to be moved. First it is too high for comfortable viewing and secondly you have the perfect spot over the console to left of fireplace

I think a light cream would be good - halfway between the current wall color and the trim color. And as others have said put TV over left credenza. You could put some matching floating shelves on each side of F/P with TV on left, same size artwork on the other. Not sure you need a rug over the wall to wall carpet - maybe a large flokati under coffee table or ottoman.

HI -- Great potential with this room. Love your beautiful puppy too ! Now the wall color is really the last thing to pick . First the rug ... are you wanting to put it on top of the wall to wall carpet that's there ?? I don't care for the carpet you showed ... too country quilt and bold and it won't go with your modern sofa . Are you changing anything about the fireplace such as the mantel or the color of the marble hearth and surround ? I think the TV has to move to the left side . So first the rug , then the furniture and drapes and then finally the wall color . And finding a paint , first go to a paint store like Benjamin Moore and pick out some greys or grey whites that you like and narrow the choices to maybe 3 or 4 and no more ... get the color cards for those to try on your walls to see which looks best at all times of day and night . Do this before you ever buy and apply any paint . Other brands also have samples . But pick out other things first . For a rug , you need to find one that is big enough for all the furniture to sit on . Look for some thing that has more blended and suttle or neutral colors . Second life rugs at ELTE.com for example . For coffee and side tables , don't get a matched set . The coffee table doesn't need to be the same as the side tables ... but they should relate in materials and color . But plan, plan, plan before you do !

I agree with other posters to place the TV on the left credenza, add art above the fireplace & if you must have an area rug pick it after having done those things. Lastly pick the paint color. Paint is easier to change than the other things. I have been advising everyone to pick up the folder of all shades of whites from the paint store. Decide on 3 or 4 & buy sample paint cans of them to paint on poster boards to move around your room at different times of the day. Do not paint an accent wall. add a few drops of the chosen paint to the ceiling paint for the ceiling.

It seams like a lot of people are saying I should have the TV above one of the credenzas. I guess I'm not completely opposed to that, but I planned on having multiple pictures above each credenza. The high also doesn't really affect us, I know it looks high up but it's actually a good angle (: But if everyone thinks it can work and won't look unbalanced then I guess I will try it! (:

Carol, hi! (: Thank you for the nice comments! I honestly don't even like the inset, and I wish I could change it to more of a dark cooler color but that might be to big of a project for me. I thought a dark wall color would look really good also, but I'm trying to find a color that I can also use in my entry way, so it matches. Do you think that using a dark grey In one room, and a lighter grey throughout the house would look? (: Yes, we are planned on moving the box and cords behind the TV- so it will be cordless. Haha yes, my "cushion" !! :) I couldn't move him, he looked so comfy there.

Eclecticoh, I wouldn't be opposed to it. The only think I would be afraid is about the credenzas, because they are a slight beige color so I wouldn't want them to look out of place.

Ashtonchic, yeah- I guess putting a rug over wall to wall carpet would be sort of odd. I just really don't like the color. I wish I had hardwood floor, but I would have to do the whole house and don't currently have the budget (:

Lefty47, thank you! (: If you don't think a rug in top of the carpet would look to odd then I think I would prefer to do a rug- I don't really like the carpet. I'm not planned on changing the marble, because it probably would be to big of a project. If anyone could point me in a direction for a easy cheap way to change it then I defiantly would be willing to change it, I think a darker cooler color would look better (: I actually have been going to Benjamin Moore, the paint colors besides the full wall I painted are samples from there. I actually am getting one more sample, but I probably will hold it off untill I get a rug and more I guess (: ok, I will defiantly plan and probably for most purchases I will tell everyone on here for opinions (:

Houzzers seem convinced that tvs should never be above fireplaces. Mine is there and I like it. No neck strain or other perils people reference. Like you were planning, I placed art on either side. I like the more balanced look verses tv to one side, which usually feels lopsided to me. Of course, I also have a rug over wall to wall. LOL. I guess I'm just all messed up. But I see nothing anymore weird about it than a rug over any other flooring you want to protect. As long as the colors and pattern compliment rather than compete.

Work on completing the fabrics for your room because paint can be custom blended to work with them, but the reverse can't happen. TV above FP is bad for the TV's health and yours.

Move the TV. If you go gray, do a warm gray. A cool gray is going to make the room uninviting. Add some color. Balance the walls like this:

What about turning the sofa with one of the chaise facing the wall parallel to the window. On the parallel wall you would have one of the sideboard with the tv alongside with the other chaise.

The other sideboard can be placed in the dining area.

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, I have been really busy! I think I have decided to move the TV to one side. I'm going to probably change it this weekend, I will defiantly ask for suggestions on how high I should mount it this weekend (: For now I might just take it town and put it on a stand and sit it on the left sideboard.

Pam, they all seem to really not like it over the fireplace! Haha :) I'm still really deciding about if I should try it on a side, I always think they look lopsided. Then we are both messed up! Haha (:

Londonvon, I really like that photo operation picture. That's what I was originally planned on doing some thing similar like that. But I might not, and try putting the TV on the side. :)

Happyleg, the cord are not permanent- we were going to put the box behind the TV and the cords would be gone. Also it isn't actually that bad on the neck! (: But I think j am going to try it on the side, I just have to
find the stand.

Eclecticoh, yay!!!! I can finally put a name on the style that I have! (: I looked it up, and that is a very similar style I like. I do however like some dark things though, but like lighter objects to contrast them. Also I don't think that arrangement would work, but I guess I can try it! (: I will try it later when I have someone who can help me.

Do you think some colorful accessories on the sideboard, and maybe a few pictures could add enough color? I could even add some pillows and stuff. (:

Nice sofa choice. I would go with a dark gray wall with beige and brown accents.
