The current lights over your sink seem low. Are you set on having pendants?

Not set on pendants.. just looking for something that will look nice. :) I do like glass pendants though. What is the appropriate height for a pendant over a sink? And are double pendants normal? Ideally we would like to not move any wiring..

I'd leave the dining room light as is. photo #2 is cute though and has a bit of bling.

There isn't much wrong with the fixture over the dining room table. Period I would concentrate first on the kitchen as it's where you need the best light. Over the sink I would replace the two pendant with 4 inch recessed cans. Very simple change out. In the other part of the kitchen with the semi flush I would put a multihead fixture with poseable fixed your heads. search serpentine light by cal lighting. You do not need pendants over that think they are a distraction and out of place. In fact to be honest if I was you I would go ahead and put in about five recessed cans and replace the two over the sink the same. As to the entryway your ceilings are not that tall so be careful and measure the distance it can actually hang down.

You can resell those pendants on Craig list or something like that and the semi flush and the chandelier. Just a thought. Over the dining table I would get a simple six light oil rubbed bronze chandelier. In the entry I would get what is called small bell jar

Thank you for all of the suggestions! Although I know recessed lighting is an excellent and popular option, I don't think it's right for our house. Our house was built in 1939 and does not have any recessed lights. So I feel like it would look out of place if we added them to the kitchen. But what do I know.. I'm not a designer. :)

How wide are the shades on the current pendants above your sink? Since the lights are fairly close together, smaller is best. The ones you chose are good because of the clear glass but I'm worried about the oil rubbed bronze. Is your cabinet hardware oil rubbed bronze? These seem less obtrusive and would work with any hardware finish:

I really like the light you posted above! I believe the shades on our current pendants are about 8 inches across. The cabinet hardware and faucet are pewter. We would like to change the appliances for stainless steel or slate someday. We don't plan on changing or painting the cabinets. The kitchen was updated by the previous owners about 8 years ago and they are great quality cabinets. So given that, what type/ color of metal do we use for lighting?

I like to repeat the faucet metal, so I'd have all metal in the silver tone in your kitchen. Some say you do not need to stick to one metal. Check out kitchen photos and see for yourself, maybe you will feel differently...

I love your cabinets. I wouldn't change them at all. Just wondered if you were set on the oil-rubbed bronze finish. One other question, what is the distance from the ceiling to the top of your door in the entry?

I'm still stuck on the type of fixture for the "middle" of the kitchen. A semi-flush mount/ flush mount? It needs to be high enough for someone to walk under and our ceilings are 8 feet.

You definitely want a flush mount light in the kitchen and a semi flush mount for the entry. Once you decide on the pendants, then you can pick the other kitchen light. The ceiling light in this kitchen is a good example:

Just keep it simple. Restoration hardware has nice ones (if you find one you like, let me know. I'm sure I can find something very similar for much less $).
