Is the upper half of the family room wall painted periwinkle & U want to paint the lower half of the wall another color? Or R 2 adjoining walls periwinkle? or?

Thanks, I've decided to paint two of the walls in the periwinkle room just a little deeper shade of periwinkle. This looks best with the existing color. In answer to your question olldj22, only 1/2 of the walls in the room needed to be painted. (2 walls are 1 full color and 2 other walls needed to be painted 1 full color). It was too difficult trying to come up with a cross mixture of pale robin's egg and periwinkle. Thank You. shpp

Hi---I do recommend a monochromatic color palette. Look at these color chips and see how they relate to your hues---I think you'll like them. All Ben Moore---1598 Silver Lake, 1599 Marina Gray, 1479 Alaskan Husky, 1480 Sleigh Bells, 863 Pearl Gray, and 864 Oystershell... Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

Designers typically recommend not painting a room half and half. Rather, why not consider 1/4 & 3/4. The rationale is that you don't want to cut the room in half with color. It's more visually pleasing to have a dominant color and a supporting accent color. The same rationale is used for creating a focal point in a room so that the eye knows where to look. Otherwise it gets visually confusing and ends up being less appealing. Ideally, your darker periwinkle color should be on the feature wall where your focal point will be, often a couch with some fabulous art or a fireplace.

The following Before & After photos gives you some idea of what I mean, even though it's not a living/family room, this bedroom illustrates the 3/4 and 1/4 balance and creating a focal point in the room on the darker wall. I had the home owner change just one wall color from baby blue to BM Raindance while the other 3 walls remained ivory white. It made a world of difference when it all came together with the right supporting furnishings and accessories.

Here's an actual periwinkle room makeover I did using 2 shades of periwinkle, lending itself beautifully to the nautical theme we chose. Thanks Natalie for your comments on monochromatic colors that reminded me about this project of mine. We put the lighter shade of periwinkle on 3 walls and the slightly darker shade on 1 feature wall, providing the focal point for the bed & art. The 2nd photo is closer up so you can see the 2 tones better. Like???

Thanks, NexTrend Design. This is what I'm trying to achieve. I have a small fireplace wall and it's encased in white wood framing and also marbled beige and cream tiles. So I will paint the fireplace wall the darker shade of periwinkle (focal point) and paint the rest of the existing T.V.. wall the same shade of periwinkle I already have. Somehow, I'm going to have to find the old paint chip for the old periwinkle! Really appreciate your photos!

Natalie, I appreciate the color selections you've chosen in the grey shades. My only problem is the beige and cream fireplace tiles I'm sorry I didn't show you. I'd wondered if the grey would go with these colors? I love the fact of using a different color of the wall other than the periwinkle also. Maybe both you and NexTrend Design can help me make a final decision when I send you the pic attachment of the fireplace. Thanks, so much!

Here's the pics, Natalie and Next Trend Designs. Left window wall is a light beige/peach which will be painted periwinkle (the shade that's now on the fireplace wall) as well as all other walls. Fireplace wall will be painted just a shade deeper than the periwinkle or some other color. Natalie, you suggested grey without seeing the picture, but you may think I should use some other color. Next Trend, you think the deeper shade of periwinkle. My ultimate goal would have been like Next Trend using 2 white walls and one focal point color which won't work. I can't use the white because I have new white cotton velvet curtains to be hung on the walls and want them to pop. Therefore, no white could be used and the periwinkle is in order for the window wall. So, my only issue is which color to use on my fireplace focal point wall. Check out the colors on the tiled fireplace. Please ignore the decor on f.p. as I know scale is not good for this tiny mirror. Also, still taking Christmas decor down!
