Would you suggest the white to match the mantle or perhaps a taupe or charcoal? Perhaps more natural colors like the brick where the plume is too over powering?

Sorry, but I think the white mantle is a little stark with the stone- I would tone it down just a little with a very light grey.

Hey There: Your FP is really a nice center piece - though it is a little bit busy. So you can frame it in with a very neutral color - white or off white like "miacometlady" mentioned - don't go with the purple one you do have in the corner. I would also suggest to paint the mantel...there is to much going on. Good Luck with your beautiful place...

I think you can’t go wrong with drapes and paint that match the grout color. What throws you off is the white on the mantel (paint it grout color) and the brass trim on the fp door. keep an eye out for replacement doors at places like Habitat Restore. Or use bbq black paint.
