i'd add, keep in mind everyone standing up from eating will be sliding the chairs around with less than pristine fingers. choose upholstery color accordingly.

Is that FP part of your room? My preference would be x-backs on three sides and a settee on the remaining long side. If not a settee, then x-backs plus larger upholstered armchairs at each end.

No the FP is not in the dining space. I added photo to where it will be. I've also address a picture of a buffet I purchased to go with the table. So the table and buffet I'm afraid that adding wood chairs will be too much wood??

i like an open back in a small area. especially if more than two chairs are being used. for my eye, i like the X back.... i like how the line of it references the table leg. the cohesion reduces cluttered look/opens the space.

The chairs that come with the table (I assume) are very similar to the x back, so I may just stick with those, as they will have the same stain/finish. Once you reupholster the seats in a great fabric, they will feel more modern. You could also add different ones at the heads of the table.

Sounds like you already made up your mind about the x-backs. I agree with Maureen and would upholster the seats of the chairs you have, investing in quality upholstered chairs for the two ends of the table.

Hello.. I only purchased the table. Not the chairs. The the Duncan Phyfe chairs (see below) are nice and I can find them but I find the height of the chair too low beside the table. The table is 30" in height and the original chair is only 33" in height. I would prefer a chair with higher back. Which is why I was looking at alternative wood chairs that will match the table. I do like the look of the upholstered chairs too. I like the suggestion of the side chairs being wood and 2 upholstered chairs at the ends. Below is the pic of the harp back chairs.

If you find some higher back chairs you could paint them in a nice color. See the 2010 Colorado Home of the Year above.

Go with the higher back chair whether it is upholstered or not for the sides & try Upholstered wingbacks for heads of the table.

Thoughts please. This is a pic of the front of my house. Do u think white planter box or black planter box would go better with the exterior of the house?
