Two things that strike me - the door color is fighting with the stone facade. And the light should be suspended not from the peak but in the vestibule area closer to the door. I also find the white kind of jarring. I'm sure the landscaping experts can help you jazz it up a bit as well.

You need a more open version of what is already there like photo 2 below. Ignore the first one - seems to be no way to delete photos. Be sure a beautiful chandelier sparkles through the transom style window above the door. Beef up window trim so they all stand out much like the triple one on the left. Remove the hedges and install low-growing, maintenance free landscape. Your front trees may need to be professionally pruned and you may want to plant a flowering ornamental tree right and left of the walk centered on the triple and single windows. and stain or stone the concrete walk.

I would recommend adding a brighter color door to make it pop. Then lower the hedges a bit, and add a row of colorful flowers (that tie in well with the new door color) in front of the hedges. It will add some classy feeling to the overall curb appeal. The house itself looks beautiful!

Create a larger mulch ring around trees. Tear out overgrown shrubs for new planting... Boxwood... And mulch.

Tone down trim on house to an off white. Door is stained? Perhaps a darker stain on door - walnut?

I agree about staining the door a darker color........that would be the first thing I would do. Then think about changing your trim color.

I think you should replace front door with a larger look door without side windows. You have enough windows across front house. I liked the idea of a chandler showing in top window.

I like the idea of painting your front door and surrounding trim work a glossy charcoal. It will give it more definition. I usually am not in favor of painting wood, however if the wood is in really good shape perhaps just painting the trim around it black will do it. I also would remove some of the lawn starting at above the steps & taking it gradually back to bare towards your landscape plantings. Plant flowers within a small boxwood hedge & add bark. Do the same further out around the trees.

Great house! Not so sure how much fun updating will be though if you haven't even gotten in the front door and you are already stumped! ;-) Sorry, I could not resist. Your entry way and windows are very large and tall, making the front door look tiny. To balance the sizes, consider painting the door and all the trim around it the same color to make it look like one large, tall unit. Just like in Deco's second photo. I hope you enjoy your new home!

Your house is beautiful! I suggest removing the green wall of bushes and redoing the planting bed as Sandradclark suggested. Look how nice the planting bed in Deco's second picture is. You can see each bush - they haven't grown together. The plantings welcome you and draw your eye to the front door. I also would suggest taller plantings at the corners of the house to hide the neighbors roofs from view.

not stumped I just wanted ideas. I was thinking new door for sure and like the idea of larger door no side windows. maybe dark wood or black. also how about shutters for the sides of each window dark wood or black? and paint trim of house charcoal gray. remove old shrubbery extend along sides of the walk way. lots of color and maybe river Rock instead of mulch?

No shutters! Would look false because big windows. After replacing front door start by removing every other shrub and trim what is left down. Mulch good and plant small shrubs or flowering plants in front.

No shutters and no rock - I spent two years digging rock out of a bed - a real chore. Mulch will have to be replaced, but will enhance the soil and won't be as though you poured concrete, which rock is like.

What zone are you in?

I would pull out most or all of the foundation hedge and put in mixed shrubs. There are so many more choices today competed to when that was planted. You could also plant a garden along the front of the yard. Perhaps around the tree, although trees can be tough on gardens.

Mulching around the tree is better than rocks, but not for looks. Trees look much better naturally emerging from the lawn.

Don't think about linear gardens think spaces.

Thanks for suggestions. I will NOT install window shutters. What about removing the dark screens and tint windows instead, any thoughts? I love the iron latern type lighting fixtures maybe install two? And a hanging light in the entry? Landscaping will be an ongoing project all spring and summer, ring of flowers arround trees, extend flower beds along the front and part way down the sidewalk. Along with landscape lighting. I'm in Texas so I am sure I will have a lot of options. Pricing doors now.

Love the new landscape by Groveraxle but the front door and entry look a bit odd. Maybe design an actual arch top door and transom that is better suited to the brick opening area and see if it helps.

You know, the more I look at it it seems to me that entry is out of scale in both height and width of the brick front in relation the actual door itself. The tiny width of the side lights gets clobbered by the brick. Almost not worth having really because there is too much trim and not enough light.

Your house has elements of a McMansion. The entrance needs to be done over. Remove the peek on top and lower it. The transom over the door is way too large, badly designed and out of place. Remove that too. If the entrance and door were in proportion the rest of the house would look in balance.

Black doors go well with brick! A light above the door that shows through the window would look nice too! I'm trying to figure out landscaping for this house too. It looks very similar to yours!

I agree with the "Old Guy" but this is not going to be cheap or most likely, unless you find a "brick whisperer" unnoticeable. A lower peak height, tapered or wood columns would have been nice but.

Most likely these were stock house plans from a house plan mill and they are close but... not quite there. I think the pics sumnerh183 posted are from the same mill.
