Bluestar Platinum interchangeable grill/griddle on RNB?

I have a 36" RNB rangetop. I regret that I chose not to get the built-in griddle. I am wondering if the Platinum interchangeable grill/griddle can be purchased and used on the RNB. I stopped by an appliance store today where Bluestar is sold to ask these questions. The sales people in the appliance store do not speak Bluestar very well. :) They seemed perplexed by my question and will research for me. I am thinking I will get a better/quicker answer here! On another note, if any of you have used this interchangeable grill/griddle, what do you think of it?

I am totally loving my RNB rangetop!

Thanks…

I haven't used it, but I saw it in person at an appliance store. I think it will fit any bluestar, and I think I read that somewhere. However, I prefer a good thick aluminum griddle for most griddle type foods, especially pancakes. They are usually found as non-stick, but there are several 'bare' cast aluminum ones too. I also don't mind a bigger griddle that crowds the other burners, something 12 or 13 inches wide doesn't bother me, but I do remove it when not in use.

Here's a video I found about the new grill/griddle on Youtube-

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXqwCHBan4w

I noticed that you can set it up 3 different ways, a griddle, a solid top surface with raised 'grills' and an open 'char grill' .

i use my lodge griddle/grill pan straddling 2 burners/grates on my current range. i am thinking of getting a 36" 6 burner BS RNB and wondering why you couldn't just place a griddle over the existing burner grates? can you buy their (much larger) griddle separately? maybe it won't fit flush? if i'm not mistaken, thermador has a sold separately griddle that sits atop their burners...

Yes, of course you can and many people do, including myself. I like the thicker aluminum ones because they spread the heat better and are lighter to lift. Even other griddles from other range manufacturers will work, gas isn't very fussy unlike a smooth top electric that would require the griddle to be smooth on the bottom.

Thank you for your replies and ideas! I had a sick kid over the last week and am just now getting back to my thread that I left hanging. My apologies for that.

I chose to get my RNB rangetop with 6 burners rather than 4+griddle. I bought the Chef King griddle that I had learned about via gardenweb. At 14"x23", it's just huge and heavy for daily use. I found an appliance store in my area that has the interchangeable griddle/grill (on a platinum range) in their showroom. I will go look at it next week, but unless it is something that looks nice "permanently placed", it might not be my answer.

Has anyone actually used the interchangeable griddle/grill and have an opinion on its performance?

alexrander, thank you for the link!

i have a friend who has the platinum and she loves the grill/griddle. but she has a kick ass vent a hood with a huge blower and 6 extra inches of width. you can't buy the grill/griddle separately tho, unless you have a serial number for a plantinum range. my lodge grill has a working space of only ~ 9x19. the chef king griddle sounds so much better! i see it for $75 on amazon. might have to order that!

Well, I definitely don't have a platinum serial number!

Thanks for the feedback on the grill/griddle.

lilmagil1, if you a browser search on "gardenweb chef king griddle", you'll get lots of info including how to season it.

Bluestar's policy of restricting part sales by serial number is sleazy. If it is that much cheaper to buy the lower end model and then order parts to get the same functionality as a higher end model, they should not be charging such a premium for the high end model!

I would hit them back with some sleaze yourself. Find a Platinum range in a showroom that doesn't have the serial number covered up.

I really don't like the Chef King griddles, they are made of mild steel, one of the worst materials for even heating. Heavy and awful.

I am looking at buying an RNB and inquired about getting the griddle from the platinum. The dealer mentioned that it could be done. They 'get around' bluestar's policy by using the serial number off another unit. Maybe your dealer would do the same for you?

Has anyone used the 'Platinum' Grill/Griddle with an RNB range? It seems as if the part can be purchased online but it would be nice to confirm that it will fit a RNB.

    Thanks!!

lilmagil1 - I came here to suggest the Lodge griddle pan myself. We went with a Grill on our 48" range. I liked the grill. It was a great option to have when it was raining or I did not feel like busting out the Big Green Egg. The wife not so much. She wished we had gotten the built in griddle. I will admit the griddle would probably have been a better choice. Or at least the more used/flexible option.

I have the lodge griddle. It is just too small. I can only fit 2-3 pancakes on it. I still wonder as to whether the platinum griddle can be placed on top of the RNB grates and still be steady and level, and as efficient heat-wise. when it is included on the platinum range, there are no grates. It sits directly on top of the burners...a completely different set up. heat efficiency, steadiness and "levelness" are very important when making pancakes! :-)

It appears that for the Platinum, you first remove the entire burner piece and lay the frame and griddle/broiler in the frame. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXqwCHBan4w ) But, the RNB is built exactly the same way! And, the measurements are exactly the same. I would just like verification from BlueStar or somebody else who has done this that the fit will be perfect. (before spending $650!)

The answer to the question is ....It will fit, the problem is buying the interchangeable grill griddle parts, from what i understand in order to buy the parts you need the serial number from your current unit. If its not a Platinum range or rangetop they wont sell one to you. But i could be wrong

Thanks for the reply Trevor. (How do you know it will fit?)

I see it available from online stores....I wonder if after placing the order for the 'part' if the order will get rejected.

It really doesn't seem cool that BlueStar would not sell this part if it's completely compatible.

I think your seeing it on line for Platinum owners who want to buy an extra one.

Perhaps. (I feel like there's a way around the system but I don't want to put the effort in unless I know it will work.)

Not everyone has loved that combo grill/griddle. I could be wrong but in my estimation a good thick aluminum (probably non-stick is easier to find) griddle is the way to go - aluminum conducts heat so much more evenly esp. for pancakes.

Something like the Chefs design maxi griddle is quite good for aluminum-https://www.amazon.com/Chefs-Design-12-3-4-Inch-Griddle/dp/B0001VQIG8

If you like stainless steel, this plancha by Demeyere has an aluminum core (made in 2 different sizes) http://www.erresse-shop.it/en/demeyere/demeyere-teppanyaki-large

HI, I am looking at the Blue Star Platinum range tops. I was very excited about the grill/griddle feature that fits over 2 burners. I saw one in an appliance store yesterday and was amazed at how heavy that cast iron grill/griddle is! I mean, I work out, but I feel like I would need my husband's help to get that thing on and off. Does anyone have any idea how much those accessories weigh? I googled, but didn't find. Anyone find this to be an issue?

I found Trevor's answer from another post. (Bluestar Platinum Owners - How is your Range?)

    Trevor Lawson (Eurostoves Inc)

    Grates
7 lbs each, Griddle plate 16 lbs, frame 17 lbs..... easy to lift and
move unless you decide to do it all in one, but then that would be
    foolish

Hi staylight46 - reviving this thread - did the interchangeable griddle charbroiled system work with you RCD?

  • last month

…RCS - I am also looking for getting it for my RCS system.

Hi Shobhit - yes it did work for my RCS! I have a 30" so I ended up removing and reinstalling the system a lot, but both the griddle and charbroiler are👌especially for serving guests. And I don't think the more powerful burners from the higher end models would matter that much, maybe except for warming up the griddle faster - it does take a significant amount of time to do so with my RCS.

    Thank you staylight46 !
I have the 36” - RCS366BV2 Was it difficult to install?

I was planning to get 3 things - are these what you got as part of the system? - 1) INTERCHANGEABLE SYSTEM: HEAT DIFFUSER 700066 (2) 700904
    Interchangeable System: Griddle Plate Only
    (3)
    Interchangeable System: Support Skirt
