your pendants seem very low??? how high off the counter are they?

Yes they were hung too low and are going to be raised up 6 inches and will then be 30 inches above island

Do you have a backsplash currently there? Actually, I love your kitchen right now! Of course, I like white used the way you have already done it.

The red candle is a great example of how pretty color is in this room. Your cushions on the stools....more nice color to build on. Some color and pattern on the place mats is another quick fix to play around with.

I agree with poster above. I don't like the 2 choices. Something more subtle would be best. Kitchen looks great so far!

Goodness, you are fortunate to have a really large kitchen. Looking at the photo, you can see that a fair amount of warm, natural light basks this kitchen, and those dark tiles might take away from that. Having gone through this, I heartily believe that the backsplash is one of the hardest things in the world to choose, it can have such a huge effect. Good luck!

Beautiful kitchen! I agree with many of the other posters, though. I don't like either of the choices for backsplash. I'm a bit tired of the busy mosaic tiles. I think a light gray glass subway tile would look pretty or a marble backsplash tile. The glass would give you a more modern feel, while the marble would give you a more traditional feel and would provide some variation in color.

Don't use these tiles! Don't look to the tile to do the "heavy lifting" of adding accent. Let them be subtle, classy plain white that matches your cabinet white. That way, you can add accent items to the counter tops- a red mixer, bright floral canisters or baskets? These items can be switched out as seasons and trends change and your choices will be endless. I had this white on white kitchen and used red and brown accents- pictures, apple baskets, canisters- to add color in the winter, and bright greens and yellows in the spring. That way, your kitchen will always be fresh! I've never liked these small, busy tiles- your eyes are immediately drawn to them (which is not a focal point) and you'll be fighting all those shades of gray for years to come! i'm fine with other than white subway, but both of these choices are too spotty/busy. mixed mosaic isnt bad, but keep whatever colors that are in it closer together.

If you love these tiles and will for years to come, go for it. The problem with the stacked tiles, is that they will look dated in about 3 years since they are so "in" right now. I would pick a classic subway tile and perk up the room with counter stools.

I love all the options that Karen posted. I think the ones you posted will make the space look too busy. Good luck!

Beautiful kitchen!! Nice dark counter tops! We just built, and we have a large amount of area for the backsplash to go in, as you do. (Are you covering the entire area, right?) We were warned that if we go with too small of tiles, it could look really busy, and just too much. (However, I've seen some that I like, but the colors are lighter. ) For me, I think the dark counters AND the dark backsplash are going to look pretty heavy and quite dark. I think something more simple would compliment your beautiful counter tops. Another option if you love it, is to use some of it above the range/stove, as decorative accent, and then use a calmer, larger tile in the rest of the areas, just so they go well together. But, If YOU LOVE it all over, then go for it!
