My daughter loves this room! How can I make it work?

I was trying to layer grays in this room; I do plan on adding color. How can I make it work? Can it work?

I think some nice silver-framed art pic behind the couch would be a nice touch. Don't limit yourself to just grays, add a nice coffee table with a bit of steel or chrome and you can use silver accessories too! Good luck with your space!

That's a cute chair, Lindsey, does it swivel?

    It does!
I like yellow in a room with so much dark gray. Print pillows. Round coffee table stainless floor lamp very tall and big art over sofa hang 7" from top of back. What's going on firepl? A mantel in reclaimed wood would work. A chair in a chevron print in yellow. Art should be contemporary . Add big palms to corners. Maybe a floor mirror with wide frame on Side of firepl. IKEA sells.
    Love coffee table you show.
Get 2 pouts in yellow put in front of fireplace.

    Sho' 'nuff.

Here's mirror; mantle is leaning next to it.

Try a white garden stool from Pier One in front of floor lamp. West Elm sell martini tables. That would work as a coffee table. This is a small area. So not to big. Art over sofa should be very large.
How Big is art you ordered? . Good colors, but not sure of size. ?
Just read that TV is by Firepl. Didn't know that. How far is window wall from sofa? Really hard to tell from pic you posted.

Here's slider pic. I was mapping out chairs and tables.

    Thanks, Grover!

lindseylulu, don't you dare hang that mirror at the ceiling. Seriously, I mean it. And you're welcome. ;-)

I wasn't, Grover! My husband was just holding it up!

Hi Lindsey! Wow, somehow I've been missing this thread....looks like lots of things are progressing. Love the yellow swivel....how do you like it? Such a perfect color for this room too. Where's this chair from? (On the hunt for some cute chairs too! :-)).

Oh and that hairpin legged coffee table (one of my favorite styles) would look adorable here....are you getting it?

@sandraclark, thank you for posting such a kind compliment. I've liked so many of your ideas too and you've been such a big help to so many Houzzers, including myself. :-)

It's from room and board, Avery. I'm still stuck on coffe tables!

    How about chartreuse and teal?

Thanks for the info on the swivel chair, Lindsey...love R&B (as you know) and we're definitely looking at a few of their chairs plus their tables. Here's some that you may like too (a couple I may have suggested earlier).....wood finishes, round or curved edges (better for our little ones) and would go well with the style of your space.

Hi, I have got an idea for your wall, you can play in this large space with a gallery wall in cloud effect with Paris photographs in black and white and color.

If you don't like i can show you other ideas !!

Pillow shopping today. Going away from the fun and funky model room too much? I also found that side table...too organic?

Hi Lindsey, really up to you.....I like the pillows and side table and yes the side table is organic. But the funky and fun room has some organic elements to it too. IMO, it's ok to start with an inspiration photo and end up with a room that may have evolved to something different.

Would you like for your room to look more like "funky and fun"? If so, we can try to find pillows, tables, ottomans, etc. that are more similar in color/pattern/feel, etc. Otherwise, you should just go with what feels right or better to you for your space.

That side table is much too low to be functional as a table. The pillows don't have enough color to be funky, sorry. The one in the back could be combined with a bright yellow solid and a mint green polka dot and be considered funky, though.

Looks like the pillows in Funky and Fun are from Room and Board. The rug is too (which yours is a different one but just as beautiful and very similar). The lumbar pillow I couldn't find on the R&B website anymore so it may have been discontinued. However I saw a few more on their website that could be used instead.

Nonetheless, the ones you picked up today are very pretty. And I've seen similar ones to the R&B pillows on sites like etsy.com too.

Just saw this discussion. It's looking great Lindsey! I love your rug!

Like Nancy, I also don't think the side table is right for the room. I love the yellow pouf you bought (up a ways).

Here is the table and ottoman in Funky and Fun....both from Jonathan Adler. I actually like a couple of the ones you posted above just as much or even better. But if you'd like to try to find more similar ones to these, we can try to do so as well.

Since being here on Houzz, my own personal tastes have evolved/changed a bit from even the first photos I saved on some of my ideabooks. I've seen other folks do the same on some dilemma threads. So, it's definitely your call on which direction to take. :-)

I like the two new pillows on the right in the pic from today's pillow shopping but not the one on the left. Did they come with inserts or were the inserts separate. If separate, I'd buy a bigger size insert for the back pillow.

Here's another thought (free and worth every penny!)... Take some black and white pics of your adorable daughter...but just parts, like her ear, toes, knees....blow them up and frame them....and accessories can be seasonal like the cool teal cushions for summer and pillow covers in orange or yellow for winter to brighten.

First, get rid of the kid. Totally doesn't match.

(I'm kidding, in case you can't tell!)

Love the chair. And round coffee table.
A grouping behind sofa, very hard to pull off. I would go with one big contemporary art piece. Your room is very small. Try grouping down hallways or bedrooms instead.

    Update! New pillows!

Love them all except for the one in the middle...colors too muted...looks washed out with the others (IMO). I like the shape, firm and texture of the organic side table. Does it suit your purpose?

Very funky and fun, Lindsey :-)

Do you like them? That's what matters! :-)

Dclostboy...I do like the side table. It's perfect for my morning coffee. However, I might do a wood coffee table, so I may need to get something else.

Btw, I do agree with dclostboy that the middle one looks muted compared to the others. I do see why you picked it though cause it reminds me of the floral from "Funky and Fun".

I do love them, but the middle one is off. I need something else. I agree!

    I like them all!

it is so refreshing to see someone not scared of dark greys. well done. Greys go great with metallic too, gold copper you name it.

You are working with the gray in different tones as I can see in the area rug. What you need is to add contrasting colors like yellow, orange, purple, aqua, light blue since the sofa is a a dark gray it all depends what colors you have in the rest of the house especially in the area close to this room. Add an ottoman in front of the sofa and upholster it in a fabric that has the contrasting color or colors you decide to use, you need a floor lamp or if you have space next to the sofa a small side table with a table lamp and art work on the walls and your daughter will like more!
