I like something solid like quartz or concrete for your perimeter if you use the dramatic granite on the island. I would pull a beige or grey tone and use that.

I love these counters you've just shown me! That's a great idea! Very simple and won't compete with the drama of the island. I might be better served to just go with a neutral cabinet color, like a creamy white or even a gray, but I am dying to incorporate the red somehow, just don't know if it would be too much with the green granite...

I would avoid doing another granite as they usually have multiple colours/tend to be busy. I would go for a solid colour quartz in the same light beige that's in the granite you love. The quartz will be no maintenance and won't compete with the island granite. Going with the light beige will also stop your kitchen from being very dark with the red cabinets.

Along the lines of soberg - since you're building can you incorporate a butlers pantry? The red cabinets I posted above are in one. I love them and plan to create one in my own home using a cabinet color I was not bold enough to put in the main kitchen.
I actually do like the red with the counter the more I think about it as long as you use the light on the perimeter.

This is so helpful! Thanks, everybody, for the tips. I agree with the comments about using something other than granite on the rest of the countertops, and I like the idea of using the red cabinets elsewhere, like maybe in the laundry room! I've actually researched red and green together on Houzz and in my opinion it can work, however, to soberg's point, I'd hate to steal that granite's thunder!
