Please help arrange my living room.

Hi guys,

My living room measures 17x15 with ceiling height of 9ft. The living room is a step down and/or sunk-in. see picture #2.

I need help rearranging my furniture. Keep in mind I don't plan on keeping the couches or the black chair, but this is my starting point.

I do plan on buying 2 side chairs, a bookcase and a drawer. where do I put those items to make this room function?

Add hardwood flooring in dark brown/black. Paint all trim cream. Paint green wall the same color as the den/LR hall. More cohesive. Pick a rug and use the colors in it for pillows,drapery other furniture

remove the railings, they seem odd at least from the entance side. what about removing the railings and putting in book cases around the out side?

I am going to give you different advice. What style do you want? If you have children & it looks like you do, DO NOT put in DARK hardwood floors. You will see every footprint, every piece of lint, every dust bunny, & if you have a dog, forget it. Please consider (if you were even planning on hardwood floors) a light to medium shade in a hardwood. Do not paint the trim, especially if you have it throughout the house & you love to paint. Are you planning to keep your current window coverings?

Leather would be a great choice for children for the furniture. Also good is ultra-suede fabric. Easy to clean off spots, spills. I would suggest choosing a modern sofa, 2 accent (matching to each other) chairs. Four leather storage cubes for throwing toys into quickly & to use as extra seating when needed. Check Ikea for the bookcases or drawers you want.

Get yourself a non-slip floor runner in an oriental or Persian style for your long hall. Wait until you have furniture and you are somewhat settled before deciding on a paint color & please do NOT go GREY. Enjoy the new home & have fun shopping.
