I would use the blues and yellows from your pillow and artwork to define your color palette. I would consider putting the square painting over your bed to make it the focal point of the room. You could paint your trim & closet doors white, as well as your furniture (could pull colors from your painting). You can then accessorize with new bedding, lamps and window panels. Fun project!

Painting furniture is a big job. Why don't you first tackle everything else and see how you feel about furniture at the end of the transformation? Change out bedspread. Try to pick out blue and sky of painting. Paint trim and closet doors white. I posted a picture of doors that had glass inserted into them. Glass reflects light and kicks up those doors a notch! They can just be plain glass and not etched as in the photo. Neutral drapes to the floor that are the same color as the background in the comforter. Take down the painting over the bed from the current post. You can put your landscape over bed.

I'm not a carpet fan and personally would be hoping for hardwood underneath that just needs to be buffed up. Having said that, I'd would prefer a carpet with a neutral design to it instead of just plain pile - is that what it is called? Smile!

can you separate the mirror piece from the chest of drawers? I think that piece really dates the bedroom set. I'm one to dislike so many matching pieces of furniture. so, I'm probably not the best person for advise, but I would not paint the furniture.

Do you like your furniture and is it in good shape ?

If the answers to those are a yes then leave it alone , once you will have painted the walls and got new bedding and reorganized your art ,you will know for sure . By looking at the furniture from here ,I wouldn't paint it.

Could you get a better picture of your window please , this would help me decide .

About laminate flooring ? Just get a couple rugs for the sides of the bed.Easy to keep clean and dust

Like the color advice you're getting. Two thoughts to add:

1) do not put glass in the closet doors -- you'll just end up showing off your "junk closet" to all your houseguests! :)

2) the bedroom furniture set is a bit dated, but I think that 90% of that feeling comes from the pulls, which are vintage 1972 (and very stylish then!). I'd see if you can find some simple modern pulls in the same shapes -- maybe a black iron or oil-rubbed bronze would provide a nice contrast without going too crazy modern. you'll have to check under the current hardware, though, as the plaques behind some of the handles may be covering unfinished wood.
