Need HELP with Dining Room!!

I need to change my dining room!! Have never quite figured out what to do with it. The rug and furniture need to stay, everything else must go, including the chair rail! This room connects to my kitchen and living room. I need suggestions for paint color, curtains, light fixture and accessories. I've taken a close up of the rug so the colors are easier to see. You ladies are so talented, please help me love this room!!

Good plan and Julie makes a good point too about seeing samples with light shining through. You have it all under control.

Thank you Flo, we did enjoy the dining room. Still have a few things to finish up and I will post pictures when it's complete. I hope 2018 is a wonderful year for all my Houzz friends.

Hello ladies, hope you all had a wonderful Easter! I haven't been on Houzz for awhile due to my father-in-law being ill. Just an update on this room, we did install the darker woven shades on the whole first floor and they look beautiful! I will be ordering the yellow botanical prints (four) for the wall, waited till spring for maybe a better selection. I realized on Easter Sunday that I definitely need to work on the table! Any suggestions for color of tablecloth, napkins, chargers?

Mary - I knew you were an "angel" and helping family is a blessing. It was such a glorious day here and our Church's outdoor egg hunt for the kiddies and the open air service on our large amphitheater here was so inspiring. It usually rains! So we were truly blessed. I'm sure we will all have dozens of table ideas for you. bbl

Hi Mary. So glad you’re back. We missed you. Sorry to hear about your father in law. Hope he’s on the mend. We had a glorious Easter here in the south and so ready to welcome spring. Can you post a picture of the dining room with your new shades.

Hey Seajaygerns! So glad you had a wonderful Easter. Here are the pictures you requested. I raised the rods as high as I could without altering the curtains. Please disregard the hooks for the plates on the left side of the window, they will be repaired!!

Thanks for the pics. The shades look perfect with the tone of the furniture and your floors. Good job! I love the jars and candles on the table but somehow I would like to see something underneath to ground everything together. I’m just not sure what. A tray would have to be so large. Was wondering about a mat of some kind.

Julie, we are a very informal family! I use placemats all the time so they'd be fine in the dining room also.

Seajaygerns, love the rattan tray but I'd have to move some of jars and candlesticks, that I love.

As long as the candlesticks and the jars have little felt feet, your table surface is protected. With the grouping, I don't think you need anything else. If it were a smaller grouping then I probably would like a tray as we discussed a while ago. It looks clean and pretty as is, just cozy the grouping into a tighter group.

I just ordered these placemats for myself in navy blue..so adorable!:))....the white glass chargers from zgallery would be a little bit of contemporary added to the tabletop so unexpected...crisp white linen napkins...I have two different napkin ring sets depending on the event...the wicker is for a more casual setting and the silver is for a bit more formal....adding the touch of yellow will be a very nice accent with all the blue in your room.

HIE. Love the yellow placemats especially if Mary is going to go forward with the yellow botanical prints on either side of the window. I found some navy things that I'll post later. I think moving the jars and candlesticks closer will be perfect solution.

A word for all on the Houzz Trade Program. They have changed things up so those of us in the Program have to provide the buyers email then Houzz will email a personal code to the buyer. More cumbersome but apparently some in the program were abusing the program so now we all suffer for the actions of a few. Sad. Julie, call your Houzz Trade Program rep or email and they will help you work thru this. Just went thru this with a client last week.

Sometimes it’s fun to keep the placemats simple and go wild with different napkins. Sometimes I’ll use a different color napkin at each place setting, for that seasonal color scheme. Plain navy is one that would be a basic color to build from.

Oh the prints! Can’t wait to see them...will add a charming touch for sure and break up all the blue a bit...no matter what.... I would keep the placemats on the lighter side nothing to dark...

The botanical prints should be delivered today! Should they be centered on each side of the window? How high and how much space in between the frames? Want to hang these only once!
  • PRO
Oh that’s exciting! Probably best to hang centered in the space between outside edge of drapery and other wall. A bit of “art” to this. You might tape templates up on wall the size of prints and test out various positions. Remind me how many prints are in the group?

Centered on each wall....about 3” between them when stacked...taping it out does help with the visual for sure:)

There are four, two on each side of the window Flo.

Well.....best if middle of grouping is about 60” from the floor...I would start there.

I had to repair and paint the holes from the plates. Want to let the paint completely dry before I hang the left side. Now to decide which setting, I really like the blue charger with the white plates. I may actually finish this project soon!!
