I believe that your tree had sustained a slight injury and will heal nicely without the need of concern.

We have that damage fairly frequently here. Fast growth in the spring and days with strong winds can cause it ( limbs and small diameter trunks whipping in the wind) hail can cause that type of damage as well. Looks like yours are healing fine. It can be an entrance area for bacteria when fresh.

Hi, did your problem resolve? I have the same problem, and the areas of damage have been expanding and girdling the tree.
