Goodman Medium Pendant over table in dining room with 8 ft ceiling

I love the Goodman pendant, I have the medium (shade has 18 inch diameter) and intend to use it over my dining table in a room with an 8 ft ceiling. However, the distance between the bottom of the shade and the top of the table seems low, only 24-25 inches. The portion of the fixture that hangs from the ceiling does not appear to have any adjustment feature. Is 24-25 inches too little distance from the table top?

Thanks.

yes, ideally you would hang the fixture 30" above the table, most light fixtures with a rod for hanging can be adjusted by either replacing the rod with a shorter one or if you cannot find a rod that matches then a good electrician can cut the rod and re-tap the threads to make it work

Did you end up doing this? Having same issue over kitchen island

@skohoro did you end up resolving your issue with the goodman pendant? I need 1.5 of the lengths they come with!

My ceilings were too low for the rods even with the small shade so ended up using regular links in matching finish. It really looks fine.

What's the height of your ceiling and the height of your island. I think I'm going to have the same problem. The height is 9 feet and my countertop height is 36. The visual comfort rep said it would work but now looking at the stem I think it's too long.

I also have a 9 foot ceiling and ended up paying (quite a bit) for a professional to shorten the stem so that it was 3/4 it's original length. It worked out perfectly! costly but worth it. Will try to post a picture.

I've been trying to figure out this same low ceiling height issue for much too long. I'm so glad to see a picture of the links, which I think look great. Thank you Sohoro48! Did VC sell the Goodman with the links instead of the rod? Also, would you please share your ceiling height, island height, and total height of your small Goodmans (bottom of pendant to ceiling)?

Julesmcc - would you please post a pic of your result?

    Thank you all.

Yes, it is too low. Thirty inches for the table is a good visual fit. An electrician will take care of any of the problem(s) you mentioned.

@sohoro48 I have just ordered the small pendants to use above my kitchen island and thought the height was adjustable based on the description. Did your electrician make the necessary adjustment with the chain links? Were the pendants shipped with the chain?

@skohoro LOVE your kitchen look. I am also ordering the Goodman pendant for my kitchen. What are the dimensions of your island? I see that you said you ordered the Small size and I am trying to decide on the size to order to achieve the same proportions in your kitchen. Thanks!!

These can be ordered in custom lengths. Working on a project now where we are putting these over a dining table and the ceilings are 8'-2.75" Tall. We are having the rods cut to the size we need.

This is super helpful, thanks! @Jamie Keskin Design how did they end up turning out? I spoke to VC and they are getting back to me on the cost of shortening them from 40.5" to 24" and I'd love to see how they ended up looking (where they cut the chain etc.?) and how they look installed. I have a 8ft ceiling, 36" island and want them to be 36" from the counter. TIA!
