I had a hard time with selecting lighting too. Prolly decision overload for me. If I remember correctly, I think the dimmer/no dimmer decision needs to be decided before actual purchase. I didn't do dimmers on my UCLs (totally functional use), but did in other LED lighting.

I went with Sophie's hafele recommendation and have been happy. I think mine are loox or something like that. It's just a thin hard strip of light with a clear cover.

Mags, you got the Hafele Bali Surface Mount?

I do want ability to dim. I cannot believe how overwhelming this lighting thing is mostly because I feel like it's a foreign language for some reason. I just can't seem to grasp all the variables and how they do or don't relate.

so if I want something that will dim, along with the laundry list of above "wishes," does that mean Hafele is no longer an option/best bet for me?

I might be missing options, but from what i can try to discern of the Hafele info I can find, it doesn't come warmer than 3700 - I want no cooler than 3000, so I guess that means it's a no go for me.

any other ideas? thanks for the help - I am not sure why this seems so complicated/confusing for me, but it is really throwing me!

Environmental lights.com has warm 3000k lights and they will customize a plan based in your layout to put into your cart. I did that and told them that I wanted the UCL's dimmable from a wall light switch. That does require a larger transformer and in wall wires that go from the light switch to the transformer which is hidden in my blind corner cabinet.

all my kitchen LEDs are in the 2700 to 3000k range. DH likes yellow incadesence and I like it a bit whiter. We get both using the dimmer. Its upside down, but this is the haefele we went with.

I lost data as I tried to update this earlier. Fyi- although you can see the pin lights as mentioned by Schicksal, it is one continuous light on countertop. I second environmental lights as well. I would have used them too if I didn't go thru my cabinet ppl for lighting installed on cabs. Haefele was a very reputable maker

Have a look at Environmental Lights offerings. They're dimmable and meet your other requirements as well. We went with their LED strips installed in a diffuser and there are no pinpoints anywhere - only a continuous light.

Why do you need it to be hardwired? Having the driver plug into a switched outlet will give you the same function. It's what we did here, and then you just add the dimmer control to a convenient location. This is the Hafele warm white tape LED in the two wood kitchens. The white kitchen has the cool everwhere but under the gray hutch, where we used the warm. You can see the color shift there if you look closely.

We used inpiredled.com, which was great to work with. We also have a driver/transformer in the cabinet wired to a wall switch. In addition to being incredibly helpful in designing what we needed, they are very inexpensive compared to the showroom brands like WAC

I had the hardest time with UCL. I didn't like anything I saw and I really don't like the spot light effect of the individual LEDs on strips. I did try going on line to look at environmental lights but with a new build and being in a location where shipping is a problem, I decided there were only so many items I could obsess about. Then I saw the WAC UCL LEDme Pro at a lighting showroom and it had everything I needed. Good color, low profile, hardwired because that is what we are set up for, and the diffuser creates an even light - no individual spots. For a few hundred dollars it met all my requirements and the decision was behind me. They aren't installed yet so no picture but I know they will be just fine. Very clean, very simple. Our current UCLs (ALKCO fluorescent and very similar box design to the WAC) have been installed for 27 years, are still going strong and I use them every day.

Keep in mind you will probably never change out your UCLs and you will probably never see or actually notice the light source. So make sure you like the beam spread and the color and you are set. Good luck!
