My home is oak woodwork, doors. kitchen cabinets etc. throughout. I was in the process of selling it when I had a fire in my kitchen. I have to replace cabinets, back splash and floor. I have been to several places and the feedback I have been getting is to replace the old ones with maple cabinets because oak is no longer "in style" and new home builders are using maple or cherry for kitchens. My first reaction was how can I go maple when oak is throughout my home and my family room and kitchen is combined. I brought samples home and I did like the look of the maple and the way it contrasted with the oak doors, but I am having trouble seeing the final picture. I have had so many opinions and one of them is never mix your woods, so now I am reconsidering my choice to go maple. I would appreciate any feedback on what other people think, because I don't want to make a huge mistake with what will be a major selling factor when my home goes back on the market. My daughter, who is very artistic, likes the look of the maple and says it will really add a more updated look to our home. We built it 13 years ago so it not that old and at the time we really loved the oak, but I really like the maple cabinets, but it's not about what I like. I need to think about the buyer and what they are looking for. When my home was on the market, some of the feedback was too much oak throughout the house, so I thought this would be a chance to add something other then oak. Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated because I am ready to lose what's left of my sanity.
