Do you consider them decorative and keep them out where you can see them, or are they stowed away in a cupboard or drawer?

I display my nicer matching utensils in a crock with miscellaneous ones in a drawer. Hate a crammed crock :)
I have not found the perfect solution; most are in crocks on a turn table in the pass through. The least used are in a drawer near the stove. The crocks collect dust and a grease film on the least used used utensils. Everything needs to be washed before used!

Plastic utensils are in a drawer but my lovely, well worn wooden pieces are kept in a pair of rustic, French antique champagne buckets. I love the way they look and they are easy to grab when I need them!

I have one cobalt crock, and then a small drawer each for baking accessories and less often used cooking accessories. Knives are in a drawer holder since I live near/in an area where earthquakes are possible.

My husband always wanted his utensils where he could see them. There are a few in drawers but this pretty much took care of his dream. Very functional. It's a fun kitchen.

PS: We live in the WA Wine Country

In a tool turnabout in my pantry. I no longer want to see them on the counter.

2 crocks, one large, one small. Large is heirloom blue-spotted from grandmother. Wooden and non-stick spatulas etc in those. 2 drawers, metal, measuring etc in those. Also sideways knife block.

I keep long utensils in one drawer and short utensils in a second drawer and I lay them in the same direction. I have too many to store them in a crock on the counter. Keeps my counters uncluttered too.

My first concern is always function. We have a very hard working kitchen and I don't have the patience for anything strictly decorative and something useful isn't clutter. Items kept in 2 crocks next to the stove don't get greasy or dusty because they are always used. I need them to be handy. If wooden spoons, for example, were kept in a drawer I would have to include drawer handle washing to the daily cleanup (yes, I'm messy!). On the other hand, candy thermometers (breakable) and infrequently used tools get drawer space. And I LOVE magnetic knife strips.

Both! One decorative crock for wooden utensils and brushes. Several drawers for the rest. I have a small kitchen, so I have two large pine hutches of which I'm currently using a couple drawers to take the overfill.

I have 2 decorative "crocks" (pitchers, actually) in which I keep the wooden and plastic utensils. All the metal ones are in drawers - lots of drawers!

I have a small kitchen and love clean, uncluttered countertops so mine are in a drawer by the stove.

They gather dust sitting on the counter in a crock

Most every utensil that I use in a week's time is in a crock on the counter. It makes getting meals together and the table set 3x as fast. It also makes it easy to put guests to work since they can find everything they need without hunting or asking for it ;)

Drainable utensil holder right next to the sink holds everyday items. Sharp chef's knives are in a drawer.

I put the ones that don't fit in my glass water pitcher or can't be hung on my pegboard are stored in the drawer. Otherwise, they're in my glass pitcher or on my pegboard. I don't do it for decorative purposes, although they do look very pretty; I do it for the convenience of not having to hunt for them.

I got a galvanized pail from the Dollar Store and keep everything in it. I can now see what and where everything is.

I keep wooden spoons and things in a decorative ceramic pitcher by the sink. I keep spatulas, flippers, and such in a metal "can" by the stove and other items that I rarely use I keep in a drawer.

I have inexpensive board with pegs on each side of my stove.

I keep mine in a crock on the stove. about every other month, the entire contents are laid out in top rack of dishwasher and crock itself goes in lower rack. that eliminates any concern about splatter onto lesser used ones. or crumbs in crock

I have two white antique pitchers. One for metal utensils and one for wooden ones and spatula/scrapers. I've tried numerous things to get stuff off the counters but the crocks are the only kind of organization that my husband can handle.

Stay cleaner in the drawer and I do not have to move them when cleaning the kitchen wotktops

Unique and large items in crock all others in a divided drawer by material ie wood, plastic, metal
  • 10 years ago

I used to have a crock but only had metal and wood items. I don't like the look of plastic and silicone items so always had them in a drawer. I'd use the items in the drawer more often and stuff in crock would just get dirty and greasy sitting there. We remodeled and everything is now in 1 large drawer with organizer.

Wooden spoons in the crock in a counter corner, everything else in flat drawer under cooktop or baking drawer directly under mixing counter.

I voted for "Other - Tell us below! ." I keep the colorful ones that I can use on teflon in a crock. I have one drawer with utiensils for prep ( peelers, mandoline, melon baller, apple corer, etc.), one for utensils I use when I cook ( strainer, long slatted spoons, whisk, metal spatulas, potato masher), and one for service ( ladles, cake server, ice tongs, salad server). This makes it easy when I get help in the kitchen, less rummaging around in my kitchen.

I used to keep them on my countertop which I had no choice and since we did kitchen renovation and added extra cabinets and drawers I now have a great drawer for all the utensils. I love it because it keeps the countertops clean and uncluttered and it is very organized!

Both! I can't have everything hidden or everything out.

All of the above. I'm a kitchen gadge-a-holic.

I've done both but my goal in life is to never have to cook anything that requires more than a spoon so to help keep myself on goal, I hide them all in the basement, where I would have to go look for them. It's amazing what you can make with just a spoon.

In our primary house, I have a crock with wooden spoons, scrapers, and other frequently used items. Whisks and metal spoons, forks, spatulas hang from the pot rack. Other things (knives, measuring spoons, vegetable peelers, microplane, etc) live in drawers. In our vacation house the crock holds the whisks, and other frequently used items. Knives are on a magnetic strip. I may add a second crock to this kitchen as it lends itself more to different work areas for different tasks. We have a few years until it becomes our only house, so I have time to figure this out.

I keep my utensils on hooks that are hung on a long, narrow black pegboard, which is close to my cooktop. All my utensils are silver. Not only is this functional, it's pretty too (I've received lots of "Why didn't I think of that?" comments from others). As a bonus, it also hides an old-fashioned telephone wall jack that is in the middle of the wall!

    I use 2 collectible crocks.

so happy for my one utensil drawer to the right of the cooker--right handy & out of the dust-!

I think it's too easy to collect too many utensils that we don't use - I know I have my go to favorites so I keep myself in check and have everything in 1 drawer for savory cooking and 1 shallow drawer for all my baking utensils including measuring tools. If it starts getting too full its time to clean them out because I don't like too many things on the counters and I'm not going to a crock. Simplicity not clutter is key in a good kitchen.

Wooden items in a special crock next to the cooktop, the rest in drwers. Those in the crock dont get dirty because they are used often--anything seldom used is given away.

I saw this idea on Houzz and incorporated it in our new kitchen. I absolutely LOVE it. Rather than a drawer, we ordered this cabinet with a tray which our contractor then drilled out the holes for the utensil cans. SO easy to find exactly what we need.

My kitchen is small and I don't like clutter on the countertops at all! Everything in drawers or cabinets works best for me.

Both. Remodeled kitchen last year and most of things are now put away! I still have some out for color.

I used 1/2 pots from Home Goods and command stripped them to the tile. Used pads on the bottom to keep them from scratching counter top.

Moved the knives out of block and into a drawer.

At MBS we have sold our rail hanging systems for kitchen utensil racks. CLICK HERE to visit our site. Here is a Houzz post on it http://bit.ly/1SIW0wx
