Beautiful! I planted my first tulips this year and one opened up yesterday and one today

That's awesome.

Seems like magic, doesn't it? How about a virus? Some of the beautiful tulips available today developed their lovely streaking or splotched patterns because of a tulip virus. (Rembrandt tulips are an example of this phenomenon.) So, if you had only red tulips for several years and now have red-and-yellow bicolored tulips, I think one explanation would be that your tulips contracted a virus.

Tulip Breaking Virus

Dawn.Yep only ever planted red. infact this spot had red ones last year. Probably the same bulbs. I have heard of virus doing that to plumeria. Im sure it could be that way with these tulips. I sure like the look. i did find a couple images on google that look just like these.

I think I will try and save a few and see if I can produce more.
