Capital range burner output not what we thought

We just had our Capital Culinarian 30" LP range, model number MCOR304L, delivered. After waiting close to a month since ordering (and being without a working stove for almost two months), I was bummed to find that the burner configuration is not 4 23K BTU burners, as the retailer told me, and as the Capital website says, but 3x 25K and one 8K simmer burner. (Looking in the manual, there's a sticker pasted over the burner output section, so it looks like this was perhaps a recent production change.)

Having four identical, powerful burners was one of the major reasons we bought this range, and something I loved, and used frequently, on my old DCS. I would have ordered a Thermador instead, had I known about the change. At the same time, I'm not psyched about going another month without a stove.

Any suggestions as to what my options are? Thanks!

Just got a call back from our retailer, who has been very helpful so far. He confirmed that all their info says 4x 23k burners. He says he talked to Capital, and that they can swap out the low output burner for a 25k one for us if we like, but that the folks at Capital suggested we try the "small pan" burner before making up our minds.

That all sounds great so far. We'll see how I feel about the small pan burner, but I'm happy that I can get this stove hooked up and start cooking again, and not have to worry about returning it and ordering a Thermador.

Not sure if you do have the situation need 4 burners at full capacity at the same time. If you do, then sure get 4 x 25K. Otherwise, you already have 3 bigger than big burners. The small burner can go lower than the lowest of the 25K. It is also very useful for heating small pot. We use the small burner all the time. After all, the decision to bring back the small burner was made based on the complaints/suggestions after the users' real use of the range.

That small burner was added due to folks here in Garden Web requesting it.

There were quite a few complaints about a not low enough simmer with the "Big Burners".

Capital should have updated the info, but as Trevor and I have mentioned,

"Marketing is not one of Capital's strong suits" (Paraphrasing), that would include their brochures and website.

One has to give them credit for implementing changes that have been suggested here in Garden Web, and in fact if you check past threads here in GW, most of the burner part of the ranges, along with the standalone cooktops were designed right here in Garden Web. Folks voted on the power/size of the burners, how many of each, etc etc.

Show me any other Appliance manufacturer that would do that? In fact due to inputs here in GW, they redesigned a cooktop that had misc sized burners to one that only had the large burners, then the "ooops" started about simmer and Capital added the simmer burner.

Hopefully someone can get Capital to correct the misc info on the Current Capitals.

I agree..... Stick with the simmer burner, I doubt you will ever need all 25k Btu burners going full blast at anyone time, but you might need a really low simmer. While the large burners will melt butter, chocolate and make perfect rice on its lowest setting, you may have a need for a small simmer burner for a small amount of creamy sauce as an example.

Hi can anyone here tell us what exactly are the differences between self clean and non self clean as far as features included with the 30" Culinarian series. I know there is a rotisserie, has anyone used this feature and feels it is a necessity? Does a probe thermometer come with the self cleaning version? Is that a necessity? I've heard that the self cleaning mode requires all windows nearby fully open and to prepare for a lot of smoke filled rooms for hours before the cycle is complete. If you have pets, specifically a bird, make sure they're out of the surrounding area. There is quite a difference in pricing between self clean and non, so was wondering how many here have actually invested in this additional feature and if so why? Thanks for reading!

You have to be a pretty serious cook if you have the need to have 4 burners on full blast at the same time.
