Hi, Althea. I think a cool crisp wall colour would get you off to a nice start. It also looks like you could use tiebacks, to keep your sheers from blowing over the chairs. A few cushions to add some more colour and pattern in the room will also help give the room a lift. I envy your breezes!

Here are a few pillows matched to (generalized) paint options. When you choose accent pillows, you can pull a more accurate colour from their prints for your walls. ( These are from Pottery Barn, though not directly from the Bonifacio flagship.)

First, remove the clutter, remove the "fringe" from the top of your sheers or put up simple sheers, the ones you have now look so dated. Buy a few pillows for the sofa and then a carpet with some pops of color. Put the sofa in front of the window on the left and the 2 chairs in front of the window where the sofa is now and put the round coffee table between the 2 chairs. You need a rectangle coffee table in front of the sofa. After this, you can think about painting the walls a crisp white or lemony cream. Please post a couple of other pics from different angles. :-)

Different Houzzers will see different things from your photo - I think it is more than possible to make a room look well by working with what exists, and to my eye, your home looks very clean, and as though someone just got home from school - which makes me think it all the more desirable to work with the items you have started with. Ask 10 decorators and you will likely get 10 different answers.... so I will add that I disagree completely with the need for any rug here; given the size of the seating area, and the path to the kitchen, any further chopping of the space would be impractical, at best.
