Experience with Nepeta Junior Walker?

Nepeta Junior Walker?
Does anyone have a few years experience with this...and perhaps pics? I had Walker's Low for a long, time and loved it...mine needed dividing nearly every year, or it flopped. I'm thinking of trying the Junior, perhaps I'd get less flop. However, I do not want to sacrifice color. Some catmints can be very "muddy/dusty" in color, if you know what I mean....I have heard that about the new little one called "Cat's Meow"....Would love to have a new discussion from those who have tried some of these newbies! I got 2 Cats Meow and 2 Purrsian Blue last year. In year one both were gorgeous with tight short growth habit. Both bloomed most of last year ending I believe In the end of September. Best of all their all growing back as of now. Two were planted in what I thought would be to much moisture in winter. Year two will tell more of a story about true growth habit.

Haven't tried Jr. Walker yet as Walkers Low does not over winter for me. too moist here I believe. It will return from seed thou.

I went to a lecture by the director of a local botanical garden, and he specifically recommended Cat's Meow as a better, tighter, improved Nepeta. I definitely want to try it.

Right now we have all Walkers Low, which I enjoy, but it does flop over and grow into the space of other plants. Someone suggested cutting it back mid-summer?

I am also interested in any answers. Did a quick search and there is not much at all.

You can absolutely cut it back mid-summer. Some of the older flowers will be tatty looking and need to be trimmed back by this point anyway. There will be new growth below and you can cut or shear back as much as is needed.

I like to trim back to the new flower buds that you can usually see forming lower down on the stems. Some others would simply shear it back. It just depends on the gardener

Thanks, peren.all! I'll try it this year-- I'm always afraid of hacking into it and committing myself to another three months of ugly.

I found this thread through a Google search for Junior Walker. I planted it last year, and it didn't do much then, but it is looking beautiful now. I wonder how well it will hold up to our sometimes scorching summers. Didn't flop last year and not flopping now. Nice lavendar colored flowers, not muddy, but not neon. I was googling for some advice about care. I'm thinking that I should shear it back after the spring flush; does that sound right to those of you with experience with Nepeta?

I am new to the Walker Low, I just planted it yesterday. It says it will bloom longer if spent flowers are removed. So, does that mean shearing or pinching each stem? Thanks!
