Would like to redo my island- suggestions?

I would like to redo my island to make it a bit smaller. Still large enough for 3-4 stools but more of a straight rectangle shape with large wooden legs on the end. This island is just too big for the space- we entertain alot and it's hard to move around. Was thinking black for the island cabinets with either the same granite as the perimeter (st. cecilia) or maybe something that would coordinate with it but make the island really stand out. I have travertine tile floors and a tumbled marble backspash. Any suggestions?

Looks like you have a sink in the island. Do you want to keep it there? How about a chunky style harvest table look with open shelf underneath at 33" high (comfortable to work at as well as sit at) in a wine color with brown glaze. If you want to recycle anything, then recut your black granite and inlay it into a thick wooden counter edge or use a thick wide plank distressed dark wooden top I wouldn't use another light wood for the top or the same St. Cecelia. This look is very inviting for casual gatherings.

Do you have a measured drawing of your kitchen so we can see the dimensions?

Without measurements can't comment much except on color/style. I think black would be too stark and make the kitchen way too masculine - just my thoughts. I think you should go for a warmer brown - like a cognac or think about a painted color - distressed ivory maybe. It would lighten it up for sure.

Your design looks computer generated and not an actual photograph? If this really was your kitchen I would first address the fact that your professional range if you decide to use it will set the two columns on either side on fire. This is why software is only as good as the designer using it.

My kitchen is not computer generated- maybe it appears that way because i used my iphone? regardless I use my stove daily and there haven't been any fires.

Thank you Mona and Cynthia- I was having second thoughts about the black too- just am not sure about the cream/ivory cabinets against my light floor. We bought this home last year and the kitchen was redone only a few years ago so I hate to rip the entire thing out, it's just not my taste.
The exisitng island is 8.3 ft by 4.4ft.

I think kitchens with that lighter wood look nice with an accent color for the island like a sage green or blue and a butcher block top. By the way, where did you get your island lights? Those are sweet!

I think Krisa's suggestion to make the island an accent color is great. I would use one of the colors in the granite-- which looks like greens and creams (hard to tell from photo). For the counter, a quartz that would complement the granite.

For some reason I thought kidney shaped would be nice. Obviously in the right colors and size for your room. With seating taken into consideration as well. Or maybe something similar to this...

It is really dark an a bit heavy in the room. I too would like a color. I can't see what your colors are . I know that it is scary to put a color out there. I was so nervous when I ordered a large blue island .. I cried when I saw it . It is beautiful .. Sage green wold be good.
