exterior house paint

My house has several layers of oil paint and we want to paint it. I can get an oil product and stick with that for now. Or I can switch to latex. There are products like PPG manor hall timeless paint that claim to have primer and paint in one and claim that they can go directly over oil. I am skeptical. Should we have the surface sanded and primed first if we are switching to latex? Thanks.
