Lighting, lighting, lighting. The off centre overhead source is so overwhelming and harsh, not to mention completely inefficient when working on the perimeter ( shadow anyone?)
Pendants and chandaliers are on their way out, though the other finishes you have chosen (antique and oil rubbed) will dictate going too up to date.

I would spend the cash on a good electrician and do full recessed and under cabinet lighting. Best thing you could do to highlight what you have already invested in and this a functional space.

We just recently moved here so we're taking on projects little by little. I know, I hate the lighting. It's the original fluorescent look from 1989 (when the house was built) and the cabinet under mounts were added sometime later. So should I leave the wall color the same?

The kitchen looks great. How about painting the door in the kitchen the same as the cabinets to have a more continuos flow. Also consider changing the door handle. Recessed lighting and under cabinet lighting may do the job .

I vote for a chandelier on top of the counter instead of those fluorescents...

And about the wall.. well, if you have budget, I am sure you can find a "better" one.. However, I would be ok with how it is for now.

You just moved in.. see if it grows on you (the walls). If you find yourself hating it more and more everyday, then consider changing it.

Change the mini-blinds over the sink to a roman shade. That big expanse of white is really bad with the distressed cabinets.

Beautiful kitchen! I would do a chandelier, something eclectic. I also agree with changing the blinds on the window perhaps a nice valance and add privacy film on the window to add natural lighting.

I agree with leelee that the white blinds should depart in favor of a shade.

I'd love to see pendants over the bar and the rest of the ceiling in recessed lights. Personally, I think you need to paint the walls to make those gorgeous cabinets stand out.

That's a nice revamp you gave your kitchen, especially the extended island. I'd say go with the pendant lights or a simple elegant chandelier that you like.
