Instead of focusing on trying to find the right accent color, find pieces that you like in colors that appeal to you so you'll be happy with them for years to come. Make sure that whatever you go with reflects your personality.

One thing I've noticed since I joined Houzz 20 months ago is how afraid everyone is of making their house their own by incorporating things that reflect their personality. Instead, most people feel that they have to stick with what a designer tells them belongs in the room, and then they are baffled why they hate their home.

I think I'm just feeling overwhelmed. I love the color for the walls, the countertop, and the hardwood floors I picked out, but now I have to decorate the place and I'm feeling a bit nervous. I want my rooms to feel warm and comfortable. I hope I can figure out how to do it.

If you rooms feel warm and welcoming to you it will feel that way to whoever enters. The important thing is this is your home, you want to enjoy living in it. Surround yourself with things you love and they will all fit together. I think you color choices sound great. A light gray sofa will be a neutral and will look good with the wall color. Since you wall color is yellow I would look for a print with a little yellow and more green and/or aqua.

Everyone has a different philosophy on rooms being decorated differently or the same colors used in every room. It's your own taste. The thing with using colors that work together throughout the house; is you can move your accessories from room to room when you want a change. It's a no cost way of redecorating your house.

I have a friend that loves to decorate and reading your post reminded me that she had also said to buy what you like and it will fit. I was thinking of gray for the sofa, so I'm glad you agree with it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.
