Nothing makes a house cuter than climbing roses lushly blooming. You can train them up the post or the tree.

Other than that, I'd paint the garage and front doors.

I agree the front door and garage are too bright white right now.

Paint the yellow and white to something like an olive green that goes very nicely with brick. Be sure and paint the garage door too as so many people leave them white thinking it's some sort of design sin to paint it, but it ends up looking like it was installed last week.

Yes, I would like to paint the doors but can't decide on a colour. I was considering a caramel colour? But I will consider an olive green with an accent to go with it.

I don't think a garage door should be the focus of the house therefore I would paint the door the same color as the brick.

I would paint the front door a bold colour to draw your eye there. Downplay the garage door. Plant landscape to lead to the front door.

I'd remove the tree in front with the stubbed off branch. Also remove the greenery left of the porch. Interesting way to hide a mansard roofline... The green color of your pine tree might be the way I'd go.

kitty, only if all the white windows and gutters must stay white--as in they would either be a pain or expensive to paint or replace, I'd consider painting WHITE all of the things that are currently the cream. The cute can come from the door color plus a bit of landscaping. Looks like a once-lovely tree should be harvested. Snap a photo farther back than shows your and the neighbors' landscaping relationship, plus one closer up, and take all 3 photos with you to a nursery and ask an experienced person there if they might give you a recommendation on what to remove and what to keep and any general planting ideas. For a specific-- I'd ask if a "hedge" of evergreen (not deciduous!) azaleas would look good and work with your climate, etc. in the area that looks like it's a sidewalk from garage to front door. Evergreen will retain leaves, of course, so you'd have a nice hedge (or even just mound shapes in a row) even after the flowers have died. A small scale tree on left side, but not in same spot as the old one, possibly a Japanese maple, to go with your house! Have that rotting post replaced or repaired and either shore up that little retaining wall or yank it out and take your time deciding how to shape that area. You might consider spending a little bit for a landscape designer (architect?) to stop by and discuss.

If I had my druthers (after all said earlier), all the windows, trims, siding, gutters, garage door would be the beigey color and the door would still be the one color of interest- perhaps haley's olive suggestion. Or a muted shade of just about ANY color!

Removing the tree and the scraggly shrubs, painting the door the same color as the siding, extending the door step to the left will go a long way toward cutifying an already pretty cute house.

I like that. Most interior rooms have at least that many variations of tones - stone now complements the lighter neutrals as well. I have a question: do people ever paint more than the front door a bright? I am referring to the whole front door area?

Or maybe potted flowers to right of door would be it... :) Of course have to wait for true spring weather!!

I'm really enjoying reading everyone's suggestions. I will paint the garage door the yellow/beige colour - the visual really helped me decide that groveraxle. Thank you. I do like the stone as well and have been considering landscape options.

I am uploading another photo I had previously played with to check out a different door style (the original photo was also taken in the spring but at least the grass is starting to turn green in this one:) ). Does this door suit the house?

I will definitely be planting flowers in the pot to the right of the door once it is warm enough. I also have a matching planter that I place on the walkway in front of the post. I will have to arm wrestle with my husband to get rid of that tree in the front but considering one half of it died last year I may have a good chance at it.
