I couldn't see how it would hurt to mix some up to a good consistency, and then try it on some scraps?

Yeah, I thought Argo was cornstarch you use for thickening gravy. But I don't know what clothes starch is made from - maybe it's the same stuff! I guess it would wash out okay. I'm with Jen - test it on some scraps and see how it works.

I remember my mother mixing up cornstarch and water to starch the clothes on laundry day. I know I did the same thing in my early days, for DHs shirt collars and cuffs. Long before permanent press.

oh yeah....starch!! Glad THOSE days are over, and ...thank God for Best Press!!! LOL (I remember mom doing some doilies, too...did they also use sugar back a couple of years ago??)

Yes. You can make your own. I remember starching, hanging to dry, dampening the item of clothing, letting it 'rest' and finally ironing

Ahhh, yeh...the old laundry days! Mom had a wringer washer, we had "dishpan" for starching clothes, & another for "bluing" the whites. Then we had to sprinkle all the clothes before ironing them all. Ahh the good old days! (Not!)

I'm going to give the spray Argo a try. I do like Best Press, but this might be a more economical alternative.

OH, be sure you plan to wash the corn starch out when finished. The name says it all..it's a food that little buggy critters love to gnaw on if stored for long period. We don't want our quilts to be "air conditioned" with little holes. But most of us launder our items when finished--especially if we've used glue for basting. So GO FOR IT!.
