what are the styles of window treatments that appeal to you?

Can you say what styles you are considering? I would go grommet top drapes hung form just below the ceiling down to the floor. Check out Ikea as theirs are the best quality for the money. You have a lovely room, except it needs that finishing touch. What colors are in the rug? I would go with that rather than carrying the dark blue any further.

do you need privacy or light control?

I love opulent drapes, and was thinking of either a gold and cream buffalo check in silk, or heavy ivory lace drapes, both hung from just below the ceiling, and pooling slightly on the floor. I'm not a big fan of grommet top drapes, as they read too contemporary to me, and I like a more traditional or French country style. I will look at IKEA, though, as they have surprised me in the past, and I might just fall in love with drapes that happen to be grommet top!

Country Curtains which has stores and online, has silk curtains and faux silk curtains. With that beautiful light fixture and curio cabinets, I think a touch of glam is called for. But I would like to see a touch of glam with simple, elegant curtains that hand straight to the floor. The curtains could hang on clips or slide on rod, your choice. The second photo has a double rod, so a sheer is included. To give windows height, hang rods as shown In illustration.
