What a lovely laundry room you're going to have! I agree that tile would probably be a great choice in case there's ever any water issues.

The hallway the laundry room is off has walnut hardwood. Would a hardwood looking tile compete with that?

If you want a more FORMAL look, not as vintagey farmhouse....then do pattern on a diagonal like this laundry room: They did checkerboard with carrara marble and limestone. The carrara would look great with your lagoon tops.

I would love to see a slate-look porcelain or ceramic with your cabs. A mixture of slate blue with slate green/cream would have an excellent effect. You would need to find an excellent slate mimic but it can be done.

A limestone-look tile would also do well. The counters are quite warm with gold in it. Limestone works nicely with these tones.

I say porcelain tile too - I have 1' x 1' ones in my kitchen - anywhere water might get out (and hoses do fail) - nothing but some type of tile would do - but since it's the laundry - I would never suggest any expensive stone like granite or travertine - save your money - there's lots of great porcelain tiles - my preference is dark grout too.
