You should raise the patio flooring to meet with the bottom of your door. You can build steps to reach the patio.

Also you can change your door to a wood frame door to match the bench on your patio.

I didn't see the little 'step' with the rug. The whole area seems slightly off now to me. May be a bigger job than I realized. Why don't you have different stone/ concrete companies come out, make suggestions on what they can accomplish within your budget, and give you quotes. Pick their brains. Then make a move. We can inspire but they can tell you what is realistic.

I think the bench is lost where it is placed. I would buy matching pots in a bright, contrasting color to the brick and put one in the corner and one to the left of the door. I love asparagus ferns in an entryway, especially a shaded entry where they will do well if watered and misted. Also, a beautiful, patterned mat in front of the door would look great. Not a country-ish one but a sophisticated paisley or French scroll design.
