Do this foyer need a wider rug?

I think that it does. One, at the door to protect your floor and a long one through the hall. Maybe not one with a border as you have. Perhaps a half circle shape at the door and then a matching rectangular hallway rug???

Also, IMHO, the corner area under stairs is very crowded. The bench (without pillows, or with only one -preferably the burgundy) and the picture are enough. The pedestal and vase with twigs looks like too much with the bench...

Also, something about the arrangement of objects on the cabinet seems off. Love the cabinet and the way the mirror reflects some art from the other wall. I even like the mix of gold and silver. I think it is the starkness of the white lampshade??? It makes the whole arrangement seem a bit "random" and not cohesive. It's not 'bad' per se, but it did catch my eye (but not in a good way). Maybe another style of lamp/lampshade. Anyone else with a suggestion here?

    Looks fine to me.....

I do like the change in the lamp shade I the removal of the stand for the floor vase. I also like the repositioning of the pillows on the little bench. I do not like the other changes made to the chest. The orchid is okay however remove the other two objects. Do increase the sizes of the area rugs in the hallway. One the width of the front door & sidelights & then add a larger hall runner. Go with an Oriental or Persian type in similar colors but not matching. Your entry foyer will be very welcoming.

It looks much better but the rugs are still too small. Just keep an eye out for a replacement! They are not the end of the world! Oriental rugs are great because they can both be red, both be different designs and still coordinate. Just make sure people while their shoes outside! Smile!

As to your first photo - I like that your textured mirror has items mostly simple with it. You repeated both cool and warm tones.

May I ask the paint color on your walls? Very nice.

I see why red bamboo vase was raised onto a pedestal, for one thing to balance the high placement of mirror. Without it, the mirror seems high, from here anyway.

The wall color is Lulled Beige by Duron.

The little mirror under stairway seems misplaced... Still prefer removal of vase... move bench over to better relate to framed mirror? Agree with different color for pillow. Also, only one needed as the bench is small. Actually, also agree that the minimalist first picture of quantity of items on cabinet is more pleasing to the eye. If you changed the items to please commenters, don't! I loved your two goblets, the dish and the lamp base (love the replacement shade - it has some 'character').. If the objects have meaning to you and 'fit' the scheme, use them, otherwise, wait until you find something that fits and is 'you'. Search Houzz re: grouping, staging foyer table and the "A" shape mentioned I think by a poster here. Also, there are articles relating to the 'purpose' of the foyer and its décor. I found the suggestions here on Houzz invaluable, especially recommendations on personalizing the space. It takes a bit of experimenting, but eventually you will find just the right objects/placement that 'sits right' with your 'eye'. I change my foyer table frequently...

I like your original table vignette better than the second. The white shade is a good scale and the texture makes it interesting. I would switch it up for spring/summer by replacing the 2 glass candle holders with either 2 brass candle pillars or a brass and glass hurricane with

flameless candles in an interesting design. If you like that idea, see http://www.villa-candles.com/garden-cottage-collection/. I have sent you a design that I think would look beautiful with your mirror and lamp. I would get a larger rug and incorporate your colors of silver, gold, navy (if that's the color in the bench) and a little white. I would remove the red vase, and current pillows from the bench. I would move the bench over a little and make the gold mirror horizontal, lower and centered over the bench. I would put navy? and white pillow in maybe a wide stripe or simple geometric design to update your entry.

Looks like you could almost get a 5 x 7 or 4 x 6 rug in there underneath the Leopard chair. And then just something a little bigger to match by the front door. It looks great in here I'm not happy about the beads on the lampshade because it doesn't seem to blend with your contemporary style. But the size of the shade is fine.

You know what? Looking back at all the suggestions regarding your cabinet display (including my own!) I really prefer your original décor of the sunburst mirror, 2 goblets, dish and lamp! It grew on me. I especially like that the original lampshade had a texture (mentioned by another poster) and the pattern really compliments the sunburst! The whole cabinet decor looks fresh the way YOU did it originally. You did very well on your own!

I would still change the under stairway décor to less (=more).

    I do like that mirror.

We all see things different;) I actually liked the original lamp shade soooooo much better than the replacement one. I liked the goblets better than the orchids too. I think the red is to harsh with the animal print and would go with a turquoise. Along with a much wider and richer rug runner;)

    Hello,
I would add a larger r rug in front of the bench and the chest. Also adding a black lampshade will add some drama. Also you need to balance the height of the lamp with something else( can keep goblets but adding a large scale floral or orchid will make it look more balanced. Good luck.
