quilting and cats..... sigh....

How do those of you who have cats deal with it?... My husband rescued a absolutely adorable tuxedo kitten who had been living in the cart barn at the golf course. He called me and said "there is a little guy here who's been living in the cart barn for a week, I like him and have named him Birdie, can we have him? please come get him for me... what was I do to.. this man has never denied me a thing in our 43 years of marriage. So, I put the carrier in the car, go to the golf course and there sitting in the golf cart beside my husband is the kitten and they are eating apples together, the cutest dern thing you've ever seen. Our Chihuahua loves him to death, they play play play, it's really cute. Now the problem, I can't do a dern thing in my sewing room without his "help".. he gets up and lays down on the fabric when I'm trying to cut it, jumps up on the sewing table and plops down when I'm trying to piece, plays and tugs when I'm trying to iron... forget trying to cut out block pieces and play with them to see what pattern I like the best. His litter box is in my sewing room so I can't exactly shut him out. I just can't get mad at him, he is too dern cute and just want's attention constantly. How do those of you who have cats deal with this? I know I can't have the only cat who thinks quilting is playtime....

OMG Debbie, he is adorable!!!! Love the story about your DH and the cat; mine is the same kind of softie. :)

I recently posted a picture of our cat George doing exactly the same thing. He's older - about 4 years old now - so he gets bored with me chasing him away and goes to do something else.

Can you distract Birdie with cat toys? Is there somewhere else you can put the litter box so you could close the door? Of course, then he'd probably sit outside and meow pitifully and scratch the door until you let him back in. LOL

He is very cute - but I have the problem of my dog "helping" me - we have no cats at our house. You just have to stop, cuddle them a while, then try again!

Omg, that face! Stitch up a catnip pouch. Give it to him a half an hour before you want to sew. He will wear himself out and you can sew without help ....for a while. Maybe a cat condo near a window for his viewing pleasure?

He is the cutest thing I've seen in a long time! I've had kittens like that and they are a bit pestory, but they are so much fun. I would keep a cat bed up there and also a bunch of toys. When he wants to do what you're trying to do, take some of the toys and distract him and get him running up and down the hall or something. You will both get more exercise and he will eventually flake out. And keep the camera up there too because some of the best pictures I've ever gotten of any of my cats and kittens were taken in the sewing room.

Birdie is adorable! I can see why you love him. I'm no help to you on how to deal with him.

I have never had a cat because of allergies.

Sew cute! My little darlings usually sleep during the day so I am lucky 'sometimes'. I have a pet bed on a table by the window so they can get there and look at the birds. That works sometimes and other times I end up with at least one cat on my lap :)

Oh, just give it up, cute wins!!! My cats eventually grew up and learned that they could sit beside my work or I had to put a large piece of paper over my work to protect it from being reorganized by my fur kid. When stretching a quilt on the living room floor they also learned that they had to walk around it. Your baby will learn, in the mean time pick her up with a kiss and relocate or just stop and play!!!
