Need help with design ideas for fireplace built-ins. Complex walls!

I want to get rid of this stone fireplace, replace it with drywall/cabinetry and add shelves & cabinets to the flanking walls. The problem is the depth variations. The space to the left of the fireplace is 3'6"W and 17" D. The space to the right is just under 9'W and is flush with the fireplace drywall. This wall has a soffit above it with recessed lighting which extends out 21" (we plan to remove the soffit). At the end of this 9' wall is a room dividing wall which essentially makes the space looked recessed (2') eventhough it's flush with the fireplace. Confusing, I know!

I'm posting a couple of photos so you can see the general layout of the room. The window is on the south wall. As you can see, this room is quite open. When we figure out how to address this fireplace wall, we will also remove the soffits from the opposite wall. Thanks for your suggestions! This one is tough. Sorry - I couldn't make the smaller photo larger and vice versa. Technical difficulties :(

Your first photo is not enlarging, so it is difficult to see the issue clearly. It seems very odd to have the sofa in front of the TV as you do. Are you planning to install TV on the newly configured wall? We're not really getting a sense of how the room is laid out. I assume the FP is opposite the sofa. May we see all four walls of this space? That would help us help you.

Thank you decoenthusiaste. Here is a photo of the room with only a few pieces in it. Sorry about the image, for some reason I can't get a full size photo to upload. You are correct about the sofa being opposite the fireplace. And yes, the TV is over the sofa in this image. We've been moving furniture to see how it will look with the TV either over the FP or in the new built-ins. (The sofa was previously in front of the window and the chairs were opposite it where you can now see a leather chair and ottoman. ) The large cabinet on the FP wall is going to be moved into another room. I will post another photo that shows the current layout. One of the challenges of this room is that there are only 2 3/4 walls. The wall with the sofa and TV is only 3/4 the length of the wall opposite it with the FP. There is no wall opposite the large window. Here is a photo taken from the front hall looking into the Family Room. More tech difficulties - I can get rotate this image. So sorry for all of these problems!

With that nice view, maybe you should turn the sofa perpendicular to the FP and TV walls so you can see out the window. Then add some swivel chairs and a swivel base under the TV so you can turn it or the chairs to enhance viewing. Your last two pix won't enlarge so I can see the details. What is the big piece of furniture right of the FP doing? It is eating up a lot of space. Can you get rid of it or move it to another room?

I'm just curious, have you tried angling your sofa on a 45 degree angle from the TV wall towards the front window? I see your floor is angled the other direction. I'd move the TV into the niche to the left of the fireplace, so you could enjoy the view, TV, or fireplace all from the angled sofa. Then I'd put your tall chair angled in the corner where the place is. This way it feels like open arms as you enter the room.
