Reveal above cabinets

Hi! Love your work. Thanks for sharing!! My question: I like the narrow reveal above the top of the cabinets. Did you do that for aesthetics or functionality & can you share a section detail of how you addressed if you have one? Thanks in advance!!!

    Hi tlcosper,

My apologies for the late repsonse to your question.

The ceiling height is approx. 9'-1" high and the overall cabinetry happens to finish approx. 3/4" - 1" short of the ceiling. It was intentional to leave the 'shadow' reveal, so it was a result of both aesthetics and functionality.

Here's a wall section through the main Kitchen Wall (Note the Mechanical Chase behind the top row of upper cabinets. This was necessary to accommodate plumbing and heating).

Is there a problem with the slimmer lower cabinets holding the weight of the wider upper cabinets? Any sagging of the upper cabinets at all? Love the kitchen!

    Hi brightyellow,

There is no weight bearing on the horizontal cabinets. All upper cabinets are mounted to the wall.

Thank you. To clarify, I am concerned that upper cabinets may sag if they are not held by side panels (as well as being mounted to the wall). A person at IKEA told us that in their display they found that the deep cabinets SAGGED after time (because they were not held by side panels, only mounted to the wall). Is this something that you have come across?

There were and are no issues with sagging. Firstly the upper row are not deep cabinets. They are simply standard 12" depth upper cabinets mounted using conventional methods. (see section again)

I really like your kitchen design. very pleasing colors and clever design. Is the depth of the upper cabinet 12 or 24"? I saw it in the section that 12" depth was used by mechanical chase. Does the mechanical chase run all throughout the cabinet area or only where the cooktop is provided?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the comments. The chase runs the entire length of the kitchen wall. The most upper row of cabinets are 12" depth
