Go with what you like in terms of color... there are no hard and fast rules. Some prefer a lighter kitchen to the living area, some like it dark. Personal preference. From a design perspective, the one that is popping out against the cabinets, however, is the top row second and fourth from left and bottom row second from left.

With the open concept, I'd paint both rooms the same color. For interest, paint the island a different color that works with your wall color. Have you checked to see what the paint company recommends to work with your wall color? They've done all the hard work for you.
