I think a long, horizontal mirror on the long wall would look great. It would also, with the chandelier, bounce light around the room. I would also either get a larger piece of art or make it a series on the end wall. The current piece isn't providing enough "oomph". But you have a great start!

1- I would add a large piece of artwork with a purple punch on the back wall to bring out the purple in the drapes and the carpet tying them together.
2- You can also add a nice centerpiece to your table like a vase full of flower along with two candles on each side.
3- It seems you have an end table at the corner of the room. It doesn't seem it belongs there. Depending on how much room your have on the side wall, I would move it where you have currently hung the wall art and replace the artwork with a vertical mirror so you can get the light bouncing of the chandelier as well.

That's a lot of wall space to fill with what is, ultimately not very interesting, a mirror. Everything in the room is beautiful, but as a whole, the space lacks punch. I think a series of framed prints with a complementary color may be what that wall needs. Botanicals, perhaps.

I will return in a bit with some options.

Love the rug. I saw this at Z Gallery & wishing I had purple in my house. I have mirrors on my mind lately so I agree it would be a good option. It would give the room more light & sparkle. Since its a large wall what about a group of mirrors?

Lined drapes are a must. Your curtains look too flimsy and have no presence to stand up to the heavy furniture and fancy chandy. I'd hang panels floor to ceiling. I don't see a cabinet, just a pram/carriage. Your window could be flanked by a pair of display cabinets. If you add a mirror, it should reflect the sparkle of the chandy, not steal the show itself, so look for something simpler.

I think you should go with something round on the wall to break up the shapes. I would stay away from a rectangular mirror.

I also think adding sconces would be a great addition. A small colorful bowl will look nice on the table or maybe a nice amethyst stone on a base.

I agree with Lavish. Round is better. More luxurious drapery would also help. Looks like you might have a light/privacy problem with the shade you have up. To give a more sophisticated feel, you could use sheer drapery behind the decorative drapes to filter the light and keep it from being glare-y. If they are 4 times fullness, then it should give you the privacy you need as well.

Your drapes are too flimsy. For the style of furniture you want more presence with your drapes . Add some nice mats and table decor.

What is that piece of furniture at the corner by the window? Is it a china cabinet? Maybe something that is another element that's making the space feel "off" to you? It looks almost too deep (and maybe too wide) of a piece to be placed there? Also from a certain angle it looks like the table may not be centered entirely below the chandelier....or perhaps that's just me over analyzing. :-)

Love all the large artwork suggestions you've been given above for the long wall. The shorter wall I think also needs either a larger piece of art, art grouping or a mirror (that will also reflect that gorgeous chandelier of yours).

Oh and yes, I agree with the others that a round mirror (for the shorter wall) would be a nice addition. It would help tie into the shape of the chair backs plus the shapes in the rug pattern as well as help break up many of the rectangular and square frames already in the room.

Great ideas and I agree with the drapes needing to be more substantial. One question I have is if the room functions for you. I don't see any place for platters, desserts or even a bar when you are entertaining. Perhaps a console table against the shorter wall. You could flank it with matching lamps for a softer light source, then spruce it up with highball glasses and bar tray when not using it for dishes and desserts when entertaining. Just a thought. Am I the only one who dislikes the boxes that are below the chair rail? They look busy and are distracting--paint them to match the dark gray walls. Leave the chair rail white if you wish.

Have you tried the tall cabinet on one of the other walls? It looks all jammed in the corner when you have several long walls that could use something large to fill them.

First of all remove the baby items from the room (at least for now).. Your furnishings are lovely. Moldine on the walls, dining table & chairs as well as the chandy are perfectomundo. Sorry I just had to say it that way.

Replace your drapes with either a more formal light blocking grommet top drape which is hung just under the crown to down to the floor. Right now your drapes are thin & are bunching on the floor.

Hi, just some other ideas for you.

Most of these show ideas for a narrower credenza (or shelf), something similar that you may want to consider (instead of that larger piece in the corner) that could help anchor the (new) art and/or mirrors and perhaps new sconces or lamps in your space.

These photos may also help give you other ideas for a mirror or other wall decor.....plus table accessories.

I also like the ceilings are accented in two of these photos below too. :-)

I would as stated above remove the corner piece (it looks like a cocktail piece). I would really like to see a better photo of the large piece in the room head-on. It is hard to say whether it goes with your furnishings or not. Buy 4 more smaller coordinating pieces of art to coordinate with the one on the end wall. Hang them 2 on each side about a frame's width apart to see what effect that has. I am unable to really see what the art looks like although I can tell it is too lonely there. No one can choose your art but you. It is too personal. That mirror you are thinking about is a wall leaning mirror & you will not want that with a small child in the house.

I like the formality of the chandelier. You need to carry over that same formality throughout the whole room. Go to Art.com or Great Big Canvas.com to choose a large piece of art to hang on your long wall to be most visable from the entry of the room.

If you do paint the ceiling go with a very light shade of the color of the walls or a very light blue which will go with your wall colors. Dining room ceilings are very appealing when appearing like the sky.

Would the cabinet work on the wall where the small picture is and the cart where the cabinet is? Hard to tell how much room you have between the end of the table and the wall.

I love this dining room! few tips to maybe help are add a mirror somewhere? maybe horizontal across somewhere? get a bigger artwork or just add some more little ones maybe? and I would tie back the curtains. Just clip them back to where they aren't just hanging down. Hope this helps!

I was confused about the 3 chairs on one side. Had to re-look at your photos. Saw that you have a bench in the back. I am wondering if the chairs and bench should switch sides? Perhaps a Pro could enlighten me. I like the large round mirrors with the frames that make a statement. Also roman fabric shades might work on the window instead of drapes, tie to colors in rug. If you do not need for privacy, they would look very elegant.

the rectangular china cabinet does look like it was just jammed in there. It needs to be more visible, so change it's position in the room, or swap it out for a corner china cabinet.
